How much are you paying for insurance?

Sorry if this has been asked before, I searched and couldn't find the answer I'm looking for.

I'm looking at picking up a new car in the next few months, and I'm debating between a new 3.8 RSpec or a new WRX sedan. I called the insurance company for a quote, and they quoted me for $1368 for 6 months for the WRX, and only $1149.50 for the Genesis. The quote from the Genesis seemed to good to be true, but I just wanted to see if that sounds about right.

BTW if it matters I'm 21, clean record.

$230 / month, Full coverage with 2 minor speeding tickets on my record.

...I was paying $290 / month for my 2003 Tiburon previous to buying the Genesis!!

This will kill you, Geico max limits on liability 100/300, Comp and collision $500 deductible with $0 deducible on glass and 30 days renal coverage....$214 every 6 months.
I am 55 years old with no tickets or incidents.

$167/ month/Allstate. 68 years old with a perfect driving record. I have 100,000 Liability/ 250 ded. collision/ 0 ded. comp.

The biggest kicker for premiums is, of course, driving record, if bad, but zipcode means the most. Las Vegas has the crappiest drivers this side of Beijing, China and the insurance rates show it! When I moved here from Texas some years ago, my insurance rates tripled!

2013 r spec full coverage 80something a month. Quite a bit of tickets but all over 5 years ago if that matters. I also have another vehicle and renters insurance and a recent defensive driving class.

Ya that means something. As long as one of em isnt a dui, you probably have a clean record. 5 years... most stuff probably fell off ur record alteady

GTFO of here. I am officially angry now.

unless you live in some unknown farm town in Montana where there are only 5 other drivers then I understand.

Since I have a 2011, I just lost my new-car discount with Geico which is only good 3 years, so mine went up to $450/six months. Im mid 30s, no tickets and one under-insured motorist claim (i.e., his cheap ass, budget insurance company wouldnt pay the claim though he was at fault).

Under his name it says St. Cloud, MN. there is no way it is his or her own insurance. and their first post. mmyeah
I can scan it. I'm on my parents plan however the car is in my name on the insurance and the title.

Don't judge on post count o_O

You may want to be careful with that. If you are the only name on the title/registration and one of your parents is not a co-owner the insurance company has grounds to deny any claims by you on that vehicle. Honestly, if I had been your agent, I wouldn't even have added that vehicle to the policy in the first place. State regulations may different where you are but I would check into it and make sure. As I said in an earlier post, I've been in the insurance business for 8 years, it's always best to err on the side of caution.

Geico = awesome

I've got a 2013 3.8 Track M/T

I pay $83 bucks a month for the max coverage Geico allows. I'm 25 and this is the first car I've insured away from my parents state farm policy.

I have had one speeding ticket in the last 3 years. (15 over - reported to insurance)

I highly recommend checking with Geico and Allstate as they were both much lower than the competition. Do some shopping around b/c the difference in the rates I was quoted was astronomical. Several companies quoted me over $300 bucks a month for the same coverage Geico was offering for $83.

Even if you are currently on a parents policy... go get some quotes... it couldn't hurt. Don't fall for the word discount... it means DICK... State farm is the worst about this in my opinion. Bottom line only.

On a side note.... I bought a house 6 months ago. In the process of shopping for home owners insurance every company in the book begged me to combine my auto insurance with my home owners insurance... promising lower rates. Not a single company could get anywhere near Geico's price. FYI my Geico policy is a standalone policy. I live in TN.

BlackWidow...what I hate in the States is the use of zip codes for setting rates, irregardless of driving record. I used to live in TX, but now in Las Vegas, NV. I moved here a long time ago, but when I did, my rates more than tripled! I have a perfect record, but it didn't matter because of all the psycho drivers here, mostly tourists from everywhere else. I hate having to pay more because of that. My record is still perfect, but my rates are still what I consider crap because of the SoNev zip codes! BTW, I've been with Allstate since 1970!

Fritz, it is unfortunate that that is the case, but at the end of the day Insurance is a business. Like any business, they want to make money. The only way to do that effectively is to have a rating system in place. Sometimes it hurts you sometimes it helps. For example, in NJ, the rates were 10% higher in my primary zip code than they were in the next zip code over. If you think about it, it seems a little unfair, however, it is actually beneficial for the consumer. If one area has a much higher loss ratio an insurance company can just raise the rates in that problem area without effecting the area that has a low loss ratio. Yes, it sucks for the people in that problem area but it saves everyone outside of that area from having to pay unnecessarily higher premiums.

The agency I worked for was an Allstate agency for over 30 years. When they shut down ~2 years ago Allstate's rates were one of the highest in the state. I can appreciate your loyalty to one company/agency but as I have told many people, shop around, you never know what you may find. Just make sure you compare apples to apples. I saw too many times, people cancel their policy because they thought they were saving money when in reality the other agent just quoted them for lesser coverage.

Insurance seems straight forward on the surface, however, there are a lot of factors that go into determining rates that people don't always think about. I could go on for hours about the subject but it's a very dry topic to talk about. Lol.

Thanks for the info Black Widow! Much appreciated. Even here in the Vegas Valley, there are differing rates for the various Zips. For example, when I lived north out near Nellis Air Force Base my rates were about $10/month more than they are here in Henderson, which is away from the casinos and the base, and primarily residential only.

No problem, fritz! It is certainly commonplace for rates to vary from zip code to zip code and even more so from state to state. Some states have much higher premiums than others and that isn't going go change in the foreseeable future. NJ is one of, if not the densest state per capita in the country, thus our loss ratios are among the highest. Higher loss ratios = higher premiums. If I took my current MD policy and moved to GA I'd pay 1/3 the price for the same coverage. If I moved to certain parts of Louisiana, namely baton rouge and surrounding areas, my premium would be more than double that of MD. Location, location, location....it's certainly something people forget to consider when discussing insurance premiums.

Alright so I updated all my info with my insurance. My education and profession and job. it went down about $20/month! Im right around $100/month now with minimum + $250 comp & $1000 collision. It would go down a little more if I raised my comp. deductible but I dont wanna.

25 yrs old w/ 0 accident and 0 tickets in 8 years of driving

I am so jealous of so many of you on here. I pay $474 per MONTH! I have progressive as they were the only people who would still accept me. I have 3 speeding tickets, 2 accidents, one violation of some sort of bullshit, and one where I got caught driving a car I had just bought home before I had registered it to my name... -__- Its all a long, sad, sad story..

#312 ·
dude your high rate is brought on by yourself you got nothing to be jealous of other than the fact that most of us know how to drive safely. 3 speeding tickets and 2 accidents? holy moly lol

If I were you I would drive a Yaris for 3 years until those points go off your record.
