First disappointment with the Gen (2013)

I have a question for the 2013/14 Stage 2 BTR tuned Genesis owners. I just got my Stage 2 tune (yesterday) and it feels just like stage 1. Does your own (BTR stage 2) seem to pull like this or a little faster? Mind you I was WOT the whole time you hear the motor. One person I spoke to said if he goes WOT in 1st, 2nd or 3rd he instantly loses traction. Anybody ever heard of BTR sending out the wrong tune? Also, what is your experience going from stage 1 to stage 2?

Btr stage? - YouTube

(FYI I have done the key dance 3 times)

Only way to really tell is with a dyno.

I don't understand those people saying they are loosing traction in 3rd. I can see spinning 1st, chirping 2nd a bit, but 3rd? Either they have bad tires or open differential. I made 319/356 and I am not spinning 3rd.

You should notice a major difference between stage 1 and 2, mine was mostly torque increase which gives you better acceleration feel. A dyno would tell you right away.

Thx for the response guys. Yeah, everyone is telling me I should feel a difference but tbh I dont. The only thing I notice is throttle response seems better. I guess I will just have to dyno it to see what's up. Hopefully it was just a mix up on the ecm. I really hope the car can do a little better than this. The butt dyno says it's the same horsepower if not very similar to stage 1.

what he said -^ If you have decent tires you shouldn't really be spinning in second. Only way to find out if you are making any gains is to get yourself on a dyno. I have a stage one custom tune and i'm making 301whp and 350wtq. My reason for a stage one is bc I have High flowing cats and stock cat back. Get a custom tune and you will notice better gains.

Whether your tires spin will depend on a lot of different things (tire pressure, ambient temperature, tire temperature, type of tire, how long you've had them, their condition, etc).

You can't measure performance by the loss of traction, not by any accurate means anyway. Like I said, get yourself a quick dyno run and confirm it. If you're numbers are bad then you can go back to BTR and get something done about it.

I went from Stage 1 to Stage 2 and the difference was night and day. It was the same as going from Stock to Stage 1. I am one of those guys that have no traction until 4th gear and I have good tires. It has to do with where I live though and the amount of dust on the roadways. When I head down to So Cal I hook up in 3rd gear and only spin through 1st and part of second.

This is what was expecting because when I went from stock to stage 1 the power was amazing. But stage 2 showed no noticeable gain. I contacted BTR yesterday to see if they can just double check to ensure they sent me the right tune. But I will get on a dyno as soon as I can and test out the two tuned ECUs. Maybe I got my hopes up when I was expecting the "night and day" difference.

For everyone that has been following this thread I finally dyno'd the car this weekend and my suspicions proved true.

Results:

Stage 1: 285hp / 317lb-tq
Stage 2: 280hp / 292lb-tq

I knew i didn't feel any difference when going stage 2.

Temperature? Humidity? Florida is a climate where all of that is important and will affect numbers. I've found that dynojets aren't that consistent anyway.

What's the difference between stage 1 and 2 anyway? I laugh at these "stages" and the nonsense behind them, you never know what you're getting in the end.

#22 ·
Difference is suppose to be about 15-25 hp / 20-35lb-tq more than stage 1. To eliminate climate change the two tunes were dyno'd on the same day at the dyno.

#24 ·
Yea man that's exactly what I was thinking to be honest. I emailed BTR hopefully they come through for me and rectify the whole situation.

#26 ·
Wow, numbers are worse than the first tune. haha. Nice to see that your gut feeling was right though. Knowing me, I probably wouldn't have noticed crap. I know how you're feeling though.. all that wait and you finally receive it, and now you have to wait MORE. lol

#27 ·
That was the exact feeling to the point lol

Update: I contacted BTR and they said they will service the stage 2 for me. I will dyno it when they send it back to me. Hopefully there will be an improvement. I will probably know instantly via the butt dyno lol Now the wait begins......again.

I see, they grind off the motherboard contacts as well correct? That's kind of annoying.

I would love to use that tune for something other than BTR's tune down the road if it came down to that, oh well.

#32 ·
Update: I received my stage 2 tune back from BTR and the car does in fact feel a little faster now in both torque and hp. BTR definitely came through for me. Now to make sure the butt dyno matches a dynojet I have to see about getting the Genny on the dyno for actual proof of difference.

I have a custom stage one and love it. But this whole super glueing the port is bullshit. I paid for an extra ecu and they put my tune on my oem ecu there for I now have 2 paper weights. I sent btr an email about this with no response. And before anyone asks I know this because of the part number on the box the ecu came in.

#37 ·
Yes they put my custom tune on my oem one. My point is I paid for an extra ecu so my oem one wouldn't have the port disabled and that's what happened. If I wanted my oem one tuned I wouldn't of paid for a spare ecu

#41 ·
Ok so how it works is you go to a tuning event. If u want a spare ecu they bring it. They drive your car ontoa dyno. Canadian cars have immobilizers so they have to clone your oem ecu , transfer it to the spare ecu and do there tuning.

#45 · (Edited)
Yep pretty much except the Korean ecu(spare) just has my oem tune. And my oem now has a blocked port. Btr won't even respond to me.

#47 ·
Yep but I was the first appt that day. mistakes happen but bye should fix the duck up.

#49 ·
No I don't they put my tune on my oem one and disabled the port. The problem is I paid for a spare ecu so mine wouldn't be touched.

So...

KDM ECU has Stock tune and blocked port, or Stock Tune and No blocked port

Which of these applies to you?

If you have unblocked port and a oem tune on the ecu they provided then there's no problem for warranty issues. You still have a stock tune on an OEM ECU.

...and all the ECU's are made in Korea anyhow.

Blocked port on oem ecu. Not sure on kdm ecu. Car is in storage.

If the bdm port on the "kdm" ecu isn't blocked off then you have no issues.

It has your cloned oem tune and vin on it, so should you need warranty work then pop that one in.
