Throttle lag

I'm not sure if anyone has felt a slight hesitation when shifting before you feel the power come on. Well, I had a Veloster Turbo and traded it in on my new 2013 Rspec and I noticed a slight lag between shifts just like the Veloster because of the fly by wire. So I did a trick we did on our Velosters which was to unplug the connector on top of the clutch. Well I've only driven a few miles but I already notice a difference when I shift its more lively and just responds better. I'll leave it unplugged for a few days and see how it goes but just thought I might pass it on to the rest of you guys to try. :) Make sure you unplug the connector at the top not the bottom.

It was more of quick free mod before you can afford a tune. Sorry i searched and didnt see where it said people had unplugged the upper connector. I just saw discussions about the drive by wire but no one mentioned a quick fix so I just thought i might offer this free mod for people to try.

The OP already posted an easy fix...:dunno:

The lag is there to help prevent you from putting too much power to the clutch before it's fully engaged. Unplugging the top plug also prevents the cruise control from being disengaged when you push the clutch pedal so some rapid RPM climb might happen for those who forget that it's on when they go to downshift to pass or something.

R-Specs with no cruise control, it's just annoying and kind of a piss off when you're driving a track car that basically nannies your ability to shift fast.

It does work for me and all the Veloster guys as well. It allows you to shift more like a normal manual shifter and you dont feel the lag like before. Just try and it and if you dont like it plug it back in. :)

No, inside the car where you depress the clutch you will see a connector up high, just unplug that one. Driving last nite i noticed it is alot easier to power shift if needed and it responds just like a normal clutch without Drive By Wire. :)

2013 Track. Not sure if there is a minimum speed and or gear you need before the cruise can be engaged. I only tried it at about 45mph in 5th and nothing. Didn't drive it after with it plugged in at that speed with the cruise so maybe I didn't meet the cruise requirements for Hyundai. The way everything else is monitored and controlled in the car it wouldn't surprise me. :icon_rolleyes:

Oh, forgot to say, you have to unplug it after you start your car otherwise the cruise control won't work. There are two circuits on the switch, a normally open one and a normally closed. If they're no opposite of eachother when the car is started the ECU disables cruise control, it's the same for the Veloster. One guy rigged a switch that he pushes to disable the shift lag after he starts the car so he could keep his cruise control.

Yeah. I agree. Not saying there isn't a difference but I'm not seeing the huge difference in the driving characteristics. I've never really seen an issue with the lag personally but this is just an opinion. I've driven manuals my whole driving life (25+ years) and have learned to baby them maybe a bit too much to keep the wear down so maybe that's why the lag doesn't bother me much :dunno:. When shifting, I find smooth and accurate is almost always better than slamming the shift as fast as you can.
I still think some dbw tweaking is needed (and from other opinions, this is given in the SFR tune) so it's not all roses and sunshine with the stock setup but it ain't too bad IMHO.

Wow. Can't believe this actually works. Definitely a huge difference in throttle response. Makes heel toe downshifting even easier.

If you don't drive semi spiritedly than you probably won't notice a difference.

My question is for snoopy. Do you think a tune will provide te same throttle response or even better. I already like it but it will get even better that would be fantastic. Do you happen to know?

If you're willing to permanently give up cruise control or have a cruise-less R-Spec model, some tuners can provide a 1:1 throttle. By far the best throttle response you're going to get with the GC. If you can't pass up on your cruise, some even offer a near 1:1 which I would say is still better than the unplug mod but since the unplug mod and throttle tuning do two different things, just with the same component, I'd say you would have amazing shift response if both were applied, especially on a R-Spec model.

I don't see any difference... I tried numerous ways. And it was always the same. I even unplugged both so the car would have no choice but to think the clutch was engaged and I still have that horrible lag when I shift at high rpms. I also took that upper switch out and taped it closed like the pedal was up. That way it didn't need to be unplugged. But I tried the unplugged method too.

might need to try this...
