So I ordered my H-test pipe and have just been refunded cuz they said they were out of stock. You guys think the H vs the regular test pipes would make a huge difference? Cuz I can get the regular ones right now for way cheaper, but curious if I should just wait for the H ones.
I just installed my new magnaflow exhuast with the depo test pipes on my 2016 gen 3.8 great sound all the way only diference to me with the H pipes is the conection between the to pipes other than that it does the same thing.
If you have an aftermarket catback exhaust just get the regular pipes, the H pipe can reduce rasp a little bit but if you have a decent exhaust system the effect will be minimal and it'll cost you quite a bit more.
I get that it's the same thing other than the H, just trying to keep/get the cleanest sound possible, and didn't know if the H really made a difference
From the performance aspect, the H-test will not be any different than the split pipes. Audibly, the H-test will clean the sound a bit and reduce the rasp to varying amounts depending on which exhaust system you have around it. I enjoyed the smoother sound with my H-test, and hated to have to remove it and buy Depot test pipes when I installed my turbo kit. The H-test just doesn't line up with the y-pipe that comes with the kit. If you want, I can make this an easier choice for you, and sell you my H-test for cheaper than new, it's in perfect condition. PM me if interested.
X-pipes typically are a bit louder and produce slightly more power later in the RPM band by evening out flow and streamlining exhaust gasses through the rest of the system. Slightly more gains than H pipe if any.
An H-pipe produces more of a classic muscle car growl and will boost torque lower in the RPM band by maintaining some of the back-pressure.
Y pipe is just blah.
$130 depot racing split test pipes, use OEM gaskets. enjoy. Be prepared though, you lose TQ but gain a few hp up top. The small loss is worth the sound IMO. However, Jay fixed it so I broke even on TQ
What? BK2 V6 dynos I've seen show test pipes making power through the entire RPM range, BK1 is a different story. Also, don't forget improved throttle response.
Yeah buddy, got my loud go fast pipes in today! Put those bad boys in coupled with my ferrari exhaust and this thing is gonna sound delicious. Hopefully get some video going this weekend too
As you can see I still have my cats in these pics. The exhaust right now sounds amazing. But only through maybe 5000 rpms if not 4800, almost gets quieter. It's not overly loud at all, some drone between 2500 and 3300 rpm but the test pipes will take out a little. I had the guys at the exhaust shop all taking pictures and excited to do this job, they were so anxious to see how it would sound and loved it. I get compliments all the time on it. Can't WAIT to put test pipes on!
So I know I keep teasing a video, it's comin! Gonna dig up my digital camcorder and get some good vids tomorrow hopefully. But I did install test pipes, and with my setup it sounds FANTASTIC!!! It's actually a hair quieter in the low mid range, but definitely louder in the higher rpms. The WAY it sounds tho is so flippin delicious haha and I'd say it took care of about 85% of the drone! Which is awesome because that's the whole reason I started the thread!
