So I managed to score a sprint booster v2 for a steal and I figured why not. So I got home today and it was on my porch Don't you love when you get home to new stuff?
I installed the sprint booster and it was on red mode from the get go. I said why not, took it for a spin and holy moly! Instant throttle response like almost way too much, no deff way too much. The throttle opens on demand with no delay whatsoever and pulls hard instantly. I tried green and it's a lot easier to drive not as aggressive still instant response from the throttle but you deff can feel it does open a little slower than red. Went back to off(stock) and it's like pressing an eco button on my wife's RAV4 gutless not shutting this baby off haha.
I'll have to update driving impressions as I go to work through the week, I've figured I start with the green setting and go from there.
Impressions so far:
Red mode-
-car feels twitchy have to get used to it, any input the car is moving and moving fast.
-it's not what you think the car does not just open the throttle more with less input just a hell of a lot faster the more gas you give the harder it pulls.
Green mode-
-still super responsive
-throttle body just opens slower but trust me this alone feels like pressing a sport mode
Off (stock)-
-Sluggish boring and seriously feels like an eco button.
-you can deff tell throttle doesn't open quickly enough, there's a build up in power it feels like and finally feels like it opens 100% at 5k
So far I'm loving it, would I pay full retail $269 heck yeah the car feels ready to go peppy and responds to your inputs.
Dang I should've looked into this before getting my SFR Stage 1.5 canned tune. I've noticed no difference in throttle response after the tune even though it's supposed to make it sharper.
How are you liking the booster over this past week?
I'm still in complete shock and love with it, I have the version two that only has off-sport-race. I'd pay the extra 30 for the v3 that can be more fine tuned. This one the car is always on edge always ready to go balls out. It's a whole different animal. Throttle is still instant and any and every input is responsive every time. The slightest input and the car is moving feels like the car lost 300lbs haha it's hard to explain it's something you have to experience.
Nice, sounds awesome lol. How do you install it and what are the benefits of the V3? Yeah I would recommend not getting a canned tune and just waiting for either the Lap3 handheld or a custom SFR or BTR tune. Canned tunes for the 3.8 are not worth it imo.
Alright, I just ordered the V3 off their home site for $289.99. from the Youtube videos,(and your post) it looks like just what im after as im not looking to mod, we'll see.
I paid $270 not including paying shipping both ways to have my redline increased to 7200 RPM and I couldn't drive my car for a week. And that's the discounted price lol
At least they offer a 30 day money back guarentee if your not satisfied so if it turns out to be B.S. i can return it like the $313.00 drilled rotors i just bought and returned to Amazon. Poor quality, way thinner, less venting, smaller diameter than stock.
Trust me when I say you won't return it unless it's too aggressive for you.
The v2 only has 3 modes
-off
-sport
-race
The v3 has
-off
- 8 sport modes
- 8 race modes
- valet mode
- and throttle pedal lockout with PIN number
Install all you need is
- flat head screw driver
-10mm deep
-ratchet
Install:
-remove cap on bottom of accelerator pedal
-remove 10mm nut
-slide pedal up
-unplug pedal
-plug in sprint booster
-find a place for booster mine is behind carpet to the right of pedal towards the top.
-plug in controller
-mount controller where you want
-have fun
I had mine for the first week in sport so I could get used to it. Now it's on race and I'm accustomed to it. You just have to becareful if you're driving in snow or icy roads the car kicks out super easy.
I've got an automatic...what does it do for that? The issue I've always had during autocross is that it automatically upshifts when it hits redline, then when I shift down it bogs (or thinks about it for a second before shifting).
I find it interesting they have a manual and an A/T version.
I have a 14 ultimate 3.8 auto, yea from what you said and what i picked up on Youtube ive heard nothing but positive comments regarding Sprint booster so im not planing on returning it, im sure i'll be singing its praises. On sprints site they show the V3 can work with either manual or automatic transmission. Im hoping it might make up for that delay i seem to feel in 2nd to 3rd shifts. I know it wont change the transmission shift points or anything but it might help hide that little delay.
I've never driven one on an auto, but I did talk to a few guys over at bimmerpost and bimmerforums and they swear by it. I had an auto BMW before and knew how that was. It was a dog till 3k rpm and then it pulled like a freight train. The guys said that feeling was gone. I had a e34 540i no slouch haha. Never got to try it on the BMW but having been on the forums a decent while I knew I could trust these guys. Plus the 30day money back was a plus. Let us know how it feels for you on the auto.
Did this video about 4 days ago not the best but you can get something out of it. This is about a little more than 1/4 throttle and you can see it jumps right up. I'll try and get one with it off for you to see the difference but the snow hasn't melted yet haha. By the way follow me on insta snow_white380gt
Mpg has decreased 2mpg due to me having a little more fun, that'll eventually go back up once it becomes normal to me haha. Kind of like when you get a new exhaust. I made a short 3 min clip of me on the way into work today. https://youtu.be/GaKXqI04k4Q
If you want to see more describe what you want to see and I'll try to get it.
Hi-
Ignorant question ensuing.... If I've already got a 1:1 throttle ratio via BTR custom tune, will this product do anything for me? Multi-mode notwithstanding?
Thanks!
I won't be able to answer that as of yet as I don't have a 1:1 tune. I was told by the sales rep that since this has nothing to do with the tune it'll work with a tuned ecu. I did do some searching and seen a few BMW guys who run this and a autowerk tune combined. So I'm guessing it won't hurt anything just further sharpen response.
When going full throttle to redline and quickly shifting, do you get a slight power cut? I'm experiencing this on my BK1 3.8 6MT. It only happens if I shift really fast though. It's like a split second hesitation in power after shifting really fast. I'm wondering if this product would cure that because it's really annoying.
^^ Awesome..looking forward to seeing your video. The one thing stopping me from getting this right now is whether the pedal to blade opening ratio is changed (bad)...or if it's the response time reduction (good) and also the speed of the blade opening (good).
The video on their website clearly shows the blade opening much faster when the guy mashes the pedal on their little test rig. But he never does the test with partial opening.
I'll buy this thing for sure if it's a 1:1 ratio and it speeds up the blade. I don't want to give my car half throttle and get 80% blade opening. That would really suck.
Anyone else have a video showing blade speed & opening compared to throttle position? I think if the Torque app shows it, there would be a delay...so I'd want to see a video of it actually happening.
Power cut is eather ecu limiting torque, or most likely you are hiting a fuel cut - which in Genesis case is power cut - right at soon as you touch redline.
While powershifting, your rpms jump up a bit as you kick the clutch, also rmps tach has delay / not exact.
I have an SFR Stage 1.5 canned tune which is supposed to significantly reduce the torque management system but it does the same thing as before when I was on the stock tune.
I've tried shifting a little sooner than my 7200 RPM redline but I get the same result if I shift as fast possible. On other cars I've driven you can just take the engine to redline and shift quickly and get tire spin but my Genesis is being held back and it's very frustrating.
I've even been messing with the clutch pedal sensor. With it plugged in and with cruise control on, if I press the clutch, RPMs drop like they should. But if I unplug the sensor and go into cruise control and press the clutch in, the RPMs will rise since the cruise control is on and my car's ability to sense if I'm pushing the clutch in is gone (AKA the ECU thinks I'm not pressing the clutch in since the sensor is unplugged and just giving my engine more gas to maintain speed since I'm in cruise control). In theory, this should help with my power cut issue since with the sensor unplugged the ECU will not limit power due to thinking my clutch hasn't been fully released. With the sensor unplugged, it's always thinking my clutch is released (not pushed in), but I still get the same issue.
If I shift a little slower I don't get the power cut but I still can't chirp my tires.
I'll try shifting a little sooner again and see what happens.
I have a feeling it also might be due to a worn fual mass flywheel.
This gismo speeds up opening of the plate at lower imput, and the more you press pedal, the less efect it has. After about 3/4 throtle imput, It does not change your gass pedal signal anymore. Look up graphs online.
Well, this is why I want to see a video of the blade with normal speed and with the mod installed. I agree with you that if it's just changing the pedal to blade position ratio then it's no different than smashing the gas pedal. But, my understanding of their promotional video is that it's speeding up the blade motor, which would be significant.
I'm sure you already get this...but if anyone is unclear, I don't want the blade open position to change at all with this mod...just the speed at which it gets from closed (or idle...or 20%, or whatever) to a higher value. Speeding up the blade action would be really good for us...and the 1:1 ratio would be icing on the cake.
The best testimonials involve the videos of the throttle response with the device installed. They are clear that it adds "NO" horsepower, but it does dramatically alter throttle response. Without added HP, this alone "should" add to ones 1/4 mile times. At full throttle-top speed application, there is no perceptible difference. The benefit is in how quickly one reaches this throttle position. I have no real desire to go over 150 mph (though the GC can get there with no problems), but I am highly interested in how "quickly" I can get to this level. My 2016 Ultimate A/T can blow by 100 mph with minimal effort, and run as smooth as glass. I am interested in getting from 0-60, or 60-100 far more than top speed. Passing trucks/cars on two-lane blacktops is totally dependent on how "quickly" one can "pass" whatever is in front of them safely. I have ordered one of these to install on my GC, so I will come back in the coming weeks and give everyone "real-life" experiences of the benefits, or lack thereof, based upon the many miles of highway and byway driving I do every week across Texas (it takes about 12 hours to get from one side of the state to the other, east to west, or north to south) and I've covered most of it during my driving days
If you're around the mass area and would like to drive a genesis with one lmk.best way I can explain is 2nd gear mash the gas at 40 with it off car builds up power and goes fast and nice. With it on mash the gas and you will spin and the ass end wants to come out.
It won't work on a 350z at all because the Vq doesn't use throttle bodies.
As to the shift cutout I did use to experience it on my 2-3 **** all times when playing on the highway. I've yet to feel it.
I've driven over 400 miles on it so far and am loving it, passing power is greatly improved. How fast the throttle blade opens is greatly improved.
its something you have to drive to feel it. We can go back and forth on how it works but until you experience it you won't know what you're missing.
I can chirp 1-2 2-3 3-4 with 245/45/18 bf Goodrich sport comp a/s. The 3.9 gears might have something to do with it haha.
You're welcome bro, I enjoy helping out when I can. If something is good I'll tell you if it's crap I'll tell you too haha. I sacrificed $180 on a torque solutions shifter I got shafted on the deal to find out why it rattled haha.
