possible damage from detailer need advice

I just had my month old 2013 pearl white genesis coupe undergo a new car prep package from Detail Werkz. They came and did their thing at my job and when I received the call that they were finished I came and inspected the work and noticed a clean thin cut into my paint about inch and a half long located behind the driver side door near the bottom.

This is the part that gets me...I was present when they started up and began to rinse and wash and came to check up on them about a hour later and they were using the clay bar...no damage, no scratch was mentioned.

The owner of the company guarantees 110% that it could not have been them and tells me that his employees called to let him know about it but nothing was mentioned to me. It took awhile for him to get "his guy" to call me later (still waiting) to check it out to see if it could have been damage done by them and I finally got him to knock off $75 from the total ($425) until "his guy" comes and takes a look at it. So my question to you guys is What would you guys have done?

I always detail my own car. You could have bought a real nice pro set up of products and a great da polisher for $425.00. With a little practice you'll be fine and you really can't hurt it.

Did you do a complete walkaround with them prior to their work and can say 100% that scratch wasn't there before?

I wouldn't pay anyone $425.00 to detail a my car. My friend had his trashed out 2003 Black BMW X5 recently restored, Washed, Clayed, Polished, Sealed $165.00

This is what he got for his $165.00 and believe me it was nasty before. You need to post some pics.

I was initially wanting to buy all the stuff to do it myself but it started becoming a lot more than I thought so I figured pay a little bit for now to be done professionally.
And no I did not inspect the vehicle before but why not call and tell me? Wouldn't that be the most logical thing to do than try to pass it off without saying anything to me?

You should always inspect it, no matter what your having done. When you have service done, have the service scheduler walk around with you and note anything, it's the only way to hold them liable. When I take my Harley in for service they always do that, they don't want to be accused.

As for the investment, you could have bought top of the line detail products, a Porter Cable DA w/pads and had money left over. Just curious, you consider $425.00 a little bit? That's half the cost of a nice exhaust, two sri intakes, two new Hankook V-12's etc.

Here's mine, detailed by me.

why did you need such an involved detail on a new car?

My father had a similar problem years ago, detailer buffed the paint off a few places on his XKR...he wasnt a happy camper

It's always a good idea to get a full detail when you buy a new car. That way you make sure get off any build up on the car, oxidation from sitting in the sun, rail dust, and then a good sealant on your car. If you want it to shine and last its a good idea.

Can you take a picture of the cut? are oyu sure it is not residue from the plastic masking when the car is shipped, I know on the bottom of my car there is a plastic clear line, looks like it was from the factory.

As for him paying, not everyone does it themselves. But that price is way too much. Even if you just hand applied wax on your own that would be enough for a new car,
