Hyundai has a new twin-turbo V6 engine in the works.

Expected to power the next-generation Genesis coupe, previewed above in the HND-9 concept, details of the 3.3-liter twin-turbo V6 have leaked onto the Internet.

Engine output will reportedly be rated at 365 hp with 379 lb-ft of torque. Compared to the current 3.8-liter naturally-aspirated 3.8-liter V6 engine, the twin-turbo mill provides 27 more horsepower and 84 lb-ft of torque. It is also expected to be a more fuel efficient engine.

If a 3.3L TT is only producing 365HP I would expect that to be at the wheels. Or that the mpg is in the 35-40s at least. It could be possible to get better MPG thanks to the low end torque and perhaps adding another gear. But still - double the turbos double the risk of something either breaking down or costing more to maintain.

Why not do a 2.5-3L single turbo, and get 330HP-something HP and a lot more MPG?

Then do a V8, for the high perfomance crowd that don't care about fuel consumption. I mean, if even Ford can do it with their Mustang it must be possible for Hyundai. ;)

Not trying to compare, but if you take a look at the 335i which is a twin-turbo and has smaller turbos it is extremely powerful. A tune, exhaust, easily 400 whp

And they come stock 310 Hp.. ish-??

Hyundai will be taking my money if so.

I'm still waiting to hear where the 3.3 liter twin turbo engine was used in a production Hyundai vehicle, or were you just talking out of your ass?

Not in a production vehicle yet. They have displayed the motor and it's ratings at a recent car show. The current GC test mule is seen with a wider and slightly longer chassis and still displaying an intercooler so it is rumored that it will be in the next redesign of the GC or possibly the Kia Stinger if/when it goes into production.

I know all that, I was referring to this statement
This engine is already in vehicle. In the current vehicle it isnt that impressive and the turbos are REALLY REALLY small. I am curious to see how it will fit in the BK chassis, because as it sits now, there is not much room.

The hell does that mean? Who's monitoring your posts that you aren't allowed to post anonymously on a Hyundai forum about a future production model? Of course it's in a non production vehicle since its not in any car in their current lineup and they didn't create it to look pretty by itself without test fitting it in some model already.

Oh please, what are you 12 years old and need to feel important? First its being used in another Hyundai and now its soon to be. If you can't say then don't mention it in the first place. Oh by the way...the end of the world is tommorow...or not

Im doing my best to give you all the information I can without throwing myself under the bus. Clear enough?
In a few months as things settle Ill have some more info and maybe a few photos. Stay on the look out.

Seems as if he's the only one working on this upcoming Hyundai super car and any mention of it other than its existence would point directly to him so it should be pretty easy for him to get canned if the right people read this

Hmmmm all this speculation

I hope this 3.3tt engine & the 5.0 both make it into the GenCoupe as they each will have a different direction and offering. With that said sa rumors and such you never can know for sure what is going to happen til it nearly does.

I do work for Hyundai and have for about 15 years now as a lowly service advisor, but I do get some scoop from time to time. Recently one of my techs who was in training school in Atlanta was speaking to one of the engineers. He told me he was informed that Hyundai may be dropping the GenCoupe all together as its sales are getting obliterated by the Veloster. He said Hyndai will retain the platform and build a 4 door car off it using the same drivetrain layout and basically the engines they are using and plan on using for the coupe on this 4 door.

I hope it is some bullshit as the Hyundai does not need to drop their Halo sports car, though I would like to see a 4 door version on the same platform to compete with Acura, Lexus & BMW vehicles of the same size and nature.

For those of you that were excited about a simple turbo swap or upgrade for the 3.3l, it wont come without a very creative and intricate tubular manifold design.
In terms of space, you have roughly 20mm or almost exactly the diameter of a US 5 cent coin worth of space from the turbo to the frame rail chassis harness as it currently sits.

I may have to pick this up if it ever comes true.

Hopefully, it gets a better aftermarket than the previous gens and you can actually tune it. Just from experience with my 3.0 TT 335, a good tune, some bolt ons and e85 and you can get into the mid 400s. A 3.3 TT should be able to do the same provided they didnt skimp on the engines

It's always good when other blogs source our news. Someone asked why there was a btr logo on the pictures and the reason is because these are not leaked photos like the articles says, these are photos from the Chicago Autoshow and BTR shared them with us. For some unknown reason Hyundai brought this engine and when I talked to the PR people to find out what they were doing, at first they were very surprised and then said they couldn't say anything about this engine.
This engine will also come to the Kia GT, not the stinger which is the GT4.

The azera is using this engine, so they are just upgrading their engines with turbos which is always a good thing.
Like it was mention before, we can hope for better internals because a lot of people are going to play with the engine and try to pull out as many ponies they can get.

I love my Genesis Coupe but I'd trade it for a 3.3L TT AWD Elantra. We'd have so many STI drivers in Fargo saying "WTF?". The GenCoupe is great, but I love a good sleeper!
