Before and After Dyno's from Stock 13' 3.8

This thread will be dedicated for all of the mods done to the car for before and after dyno runs. We do not have access to a Mustang Dyno here in Vegas so Dynojet results are being used for the before and after dyno runs.
Dyno video's will be uploaded later.

Car dyno'd at 271.2 RWHP and 230.6 TQ stock
Stock dyno run(Run #2(green) was done in 3rd gear:


-TB Overbore

Car dyno'd at 284.4 RWHP and 244.5 TQ
+ Increase is 13.2 RWHP and 13.9 TQ

Everything that was done to TB straight from Jim(the guy that did the overbore):
The TB was disassembled, rebored to the new size, the inlet is taper bored to optimize the transition to the air intake, a new plate is made to match the new bore size, the shaft is modified to accept different screws, and then a seal is applied.

The evaluation from Jim(the guy that did the overbore):
First, very impressive power from a stock 3.8L V6. The GDI technology certainly has a big role in this. The throttle body mod basically went from 76mm to 78mm, with about a 6% increase in airflow capacity, maybe a little more as we reshaped the inlet as well and reduced one major turbulence spot on the inlet.


So, thoughts on the dyno chart. We all know by now that dyno numbers vary from place to place, as well as a multitude of other factors, but the torque curves shape is significantly improved with the larger throttle body, in addition to the curve being notably higher overall. The shape of the curve normally does not change as a variable of the dyno. We have seen this before on previous tests.


The stock curve has a very significant dip from 3600-4900, where then it starts back up to its peak at 5400. Then, it drops down abruptly again and flattens out for a while until the engine finally starts to lose steam at 6600.


The curve with the modified TB has major gains in the area leading up to peak torque and after it as well (the dip prior to peak is far less pronounced and almost flat!). The way the curves start to converge from 6500 and up indicates the engine has limited breathing from other factors, likely the intake manifold, intake ports, total valve lift or a combination of all of them.


The single biggest thing that I notice on this is not the increase in power, well maybe that too, but the way the torque curve is smoothed out leading up to the peak and as it leaves the peak. The "Power" from the engine is the "area under the curve", so one could simply be happy by shifting the stock curve up by 14 ft-lbs, the reshaping of the curve to reduce the low spots "drama" are just as significant.

More power is delivered overall and in a smoother manner.

My Review:
Over boring the TB really woke up this motor. A really good increase in power and you can really feel the difference. Throttle response is incredible and smooth. I would recommend this mod for anyone and everyone! This mod alone almost made it sound like It had an intake.

After TB dyno run:



-Custom Catback Exhaust

Car Dyno'd at 291.3 RWHP and 251 TQ (The chart shows 255.21 but that is from the shift from 3rd to 4th)
+ Increase is 7 RWHP and 6.5 TQ

The Custom Catback Exhaust sounds awesome. Gave it that exhaust tone that I was really looking for, and it isn't quite compared to some of the aftermarket options that are out there. I have had people tell me it sounds like a mustang or Camaro if they didn't know what kind of car it was. Nothing but excellent compliments on the exhaust. Really good improvement on power as well. Can easily tell the difference with the exhaust vs stock exhaust.

- UR Lightweight Pulleys

I got the car dyno'd today(7/26) to show the before and after for the pulleys. As most of us know there are different factors that come in to play when conducting these dyno's. example: temperature, humidity, heat soak.

I ended up driving my car from my house straight over to the dyno shop to get right on the dyno because I still had to go to work today. I do not live right around the corner from the dyno shop so it is alittle distance from me. Mind you it was 104 degrees outside with around 30% humdity. Today's dyno temps(96 degrees) and humidity(almost 30%) were non like the ones my car has dyno'd in before(91-94 degrees and 13-23% humidity).

Can I say heat soak had taken place.. I possibly could because the car was extremely hot after popping the hood to get ready to dyno it. The dyno results showed no gain but that doesn't mean that I can't feel a difference. The pulleys really smoothed out the revs and also that point from a dead stop to begin to start moving. You can really tell that the car just wants to go by barely pressing the gas. The throttle response seems to be improved just as my TB did. I am very happy with having the pulleys. I do not regret buying them what so ever because as I mentioned above it honestly cleaned up alot of those loose ends if you will.

If you look at the dyno graph for the pulleys you can tell the car just wasn't having it today. Alot of fluctuation up and down and at different rpm's per runs. You can easily tell the car needs a tune and needs it bad. I have already got everything in place to have it tuned in Sept so we will see how she does once everything is completed and having everything tuned in to spec.

-Headers / GS Spacer / DP's / BTR Tune

I was in a very big hurry to get the car put back together to make it for the dyno tuning so was not able to dyno these mod's individually.

Car Dyno'ed at 336.3 RWHP and 293.4 TQ
+ Increase is 35.7 RWHP and 17.3 TQ (over no tune and the car ended up pulling timing as you can see in the 5750RPM range from the baseline run)

I could tell the car was faster from the mod's before the tune but after the tune, the car really responded and got up to speed barely having to press the gas.
BTR did an excellent job tuning my car and they are all awesome to work with. Thank you again to Sam at BTR and the BTR crew for tuning my car, and for all those that I met in California during the dyno tuning event it was a lot of fun and just being able to hang out and chat.

The Clutch Kit for the 2013 3.8 M/T




I know everyone has been waiting for this so here it is.


The Clutch Kit from ClutchMasters that I am running is their FX350 Kit.

Everything that is included in the Clutch Kit:

* SMF Lightweight Steel Flywheel w/ Bolts
* Clutch Disc
* Pressure Plate w/ Bolts
* Slave Cylinder w/ Release Bearing
* Alignment Tool

FAQ's

Q: What is the clutch rated HP?

A: ClutchMasters rated the FX350 Kit at 550HP unless you are constantly Drifting or Road Racing with over 450HP they recommend stepping up to the FX400 or above.

Q: Can the Stock Clutch or DMF be used with this kit?

A: No, the Stock Clutch or DMF can NOT be used with this kit.

Q: What is the weight difference compared to Stock?

A: The Stock Clutch Kit weighs 57lbs. The ClutchMasters Clutch Kit weighs 42lbs.

Q: How bad is the Clutch Chatter?

A: The Clutch Chatter is not that bad compared to some of the vehicles I have worked with or helped on. There was no Clutch Chatter for around the first 300 miles. Here is a video of the clutch chatter outside and inside the car.

J you have the R2C intake correct? You should do a run with it on and than put the stock back on and do a run with stock and compare. If you do, you can post up your results here im cool with it.

I don't have a before for the TB plate open but I do have an after. Post above was updated. If you are wondering if the new TB plate is thinner or thicker it is not, he kept the new plate the same thickness as original but obviously had to make a new plate due to the overbore.

I'm glad to see you're following suit and doing another 13 before and after dyno thread. I'd be interested to see what your overbore tb would do to a seemingly maxed out na motor.

I spent well over a g on troubleshooting to figure them out on 13s. Had them working perfectly till I drove through a tornado. lol CEL back on in relation to the O2s I had extended.. Its going to be a bitch to troubleshoot all over again.
