Haven't updated in QUITE some time so I'm going to put a few out there for all!
Getting fitted for custom wheels down at HRE. They had never measured a stock genesis for fitment before. I spent a few hours there having them go through each measurement. Calipers, suspension, offsets, etc. Really great time with those guys. Have developed a strong friendship with them and many HRE owners since.
Their open house is coming up again in June. If you're in SoCal, you should be there. It's wheel porn at it's finest.
I ended up deciding on the
HRE S101 with a brushed titanium finish. The S101 is a classic y-spoke design and it's been my absolute favorite wheel of theirs for years now. Having recently released their P101, a monoblock version of the same wheel, it was definitely a struggle. But when I considered the direction of this build as well as my love for this style, it was done...
Recommended Sizing and Offset:
F - 20x8.5 et26
R - 20x10 et29
Recommend tire sizing from HRE:
F - 245/30
R - 275/30
I opted for a few unique options as well.
Brushed Titanium Outer and Face - This is a hand brushed wheel that is then powder coated in a very soft transparent matte titanium finish. You can see all the hand brushing that goes into the wheels (all 4 hours worth per wheel)
Matte Black Inner Barrel - A simple matte black inner to hide brake dust and ease in cleaning.
Titanium Hardware - I opted for titanium fasteners. They replace all 30 SS Fasteners used to assemble the wheel with Titanium components. This saves 2lbs per wheel.
Carbon Fiber Center Caps - While I have the standard HRE caps, I really love the look of their carbon caps. Additionally, they're a little more undercover. For those that love HRE, you can always tell another HRE wheel (when spinning) because of their logo. You can't see it with the carbon and I kind of like that.
Carbon Fiber Valve Stem Caps - Just a basic black valve cap with a carbon fiber topper on it. Looks nice and clean.
Tikore Titanium Lug Nuts with Security - Tikore is a Premium Titanium machine shop. All the manufacture is Titanium lugs and a few bits and pieces here and there. I felt this was a great time to upgrade my stock steel lugs to Titanium in order to reduce unsprung weight while matching my wheel finish PERFECTLY!!! You can opt to order a security lug which they also machine in house and provide a key for. Pretty trick if you ask me.
Once I received the wheels (Quoted at 4-6 weeks completion, received in 3) they were ready for their new home. Unfortunately, they still sat at the shop for nearly 8 weeks while waiting for the Michelin tires that I had ordered to become available again. The fronts were readily available, but the rears were nearly impossible to come by. I only received a set once someone backed out of their order.
And now, for the wheels. Getting ready for a small shoot in the next few weeks. I'll be able to post some stance pictures at that time instead of rollers.
