Hello, im trying to get my 2012 genesis coupe up to 350-400 hp and i need help in finding a transmission that can hold that much power. i heard that a stock Automatic tranny can only withhold 250HP before breaking. any help or recommendation on what aftermarket tranny would work? this is for all you Genesis coupe people who have a automatic.
Auto trans are rated in torque, not HP. There are no aftermarket automatic transmissions specifically designed for the Gen coupe.
If you have a 2012 2.0T 5speed auto, from some light reading around here, 270lb-ft is the top-end torque rating for the 5-speed (not confirmed from manufacturer)
If you have a V6 ZF Auto, 300lb-ft is your max.
I can't find anyone who has replaced the auto trans in an older 2.0t with another auto. Everyone just ditches the car, or trade for a manual and all problems are solved.
A company called Level 10 sells "bulletproofed" transmissions and torque converters.
I have not seen any threads on here yet of anyone getting these, but this is probably what I will end up doing if my auto starts slipping. (Once I slap in a larger turbo)
