Hey guys, I was just recently involved in a car accident where it resulted in the total loss of my car (not my fault), and so I'm in the market for a new car. My first regret when purchasing my first car was the lack of prior research. However, I'm not too knowledgeable about cars, and although I know that Japanese cars last a pretty long time, I was wondering how long Hyundai cars last and would I have to perform a lot of maintenance or not.
Aside from that, I also need help on deciding on the 2010-2012 Genesis or the 2013+ ones. I couldn't find what I was looking for on Google so hopefully you guys can help me out. I like the front of the '10-'12 ones more than the '13+ ones, but heard that the '13+ ones have a lot better upgrades such as interior, exterior, etc. I'd greatly appreciate it if someone could explain the major differences between the two.

I wanted one of these since they first came out in '09, but I'm glad that I waited for the '13. The '13 has new front and rear ends (including LED taillights), new engine and turbo with a lot more HP and torque, a number of suspension upgrades, and a new dash that includes a telescoping steering wheel. And if you're considering an automatic, they replaced the old 5-speed with a new 8-speed transmission.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and some people like the newer nose and others hate it (nobody seems to be ambivalent about it).
worried about longevity, maintenance and quality? You want the 2013+ coupe.
I'd agree with that - Hyundai upgraded a lot of the materials (in response to complaints about the 1st gen), and the mechanics I've spoken with say that the 13+ is more solid and better-built.
The 2013s have really come down in price recently is what Ive noticed. Really pissed me off when I went to trade in my 2014 Ultimate. Overall, the drivetrain upgrades alone justify a 2013+. In a few years when my firstborn is older I'll probably be looking for a decent 2013+ as a weekend toy.
When I was researching on what car to get, I narrowed down the Genesis. I didn't like that the R-Spec (2.0 T) did not have an option for a sunroof and was tempted to go with the Premium (<- which would increase interior, but not have Rims, brembos, LSD).
I ended up getting the R-Spec, but wish I had a sunroof.
I saw that, I was mulling it over. People were saying they were having problems with factory sunroof leaking, and some aftermarket. Problem is long time support (if the manufacturer tanks etc, it might be hard to find parts to replace).
Go test drive a 2013+ and decide for yourself. No one here is going to tell you they suck. It all depends on your personal tastes.
