Which gas stations have reliable octane ratings?

I'm thinking about tuning my car to 93 octane, originally 91 but most gas stations around me only offer 87, 89, and 93. So why not tune it to 93 is my thought. I hear rumors about some gas stations having lower octane ratings than what it lists. I couldn't find much on the web or on this forum so I was wondering if anyone else knows about this or had similar problems?

87, 89, 91 and 93 is the octane rating. So you buy 93, you get 93.

What you are probably reading/hearing is the difference is quality of the gas and the ethanol percentage. I can't speak for ethanol percentage being different between gas stations as it's usually "up to 10%."

Just look up: Let me google that for you

Typically it's Mobil, Exxon, Shell, Chevron, BP.

They have to have that octane at a minimum to list it. In my experience, if its 93 and from a gas station chain, its going to be pretty much the same 93 youll find anywhere else.

Now the small mom and pop shops may try to sell lower octane and quality gas as something that is isnt, but the big guys arent going to risk getting caught.

e85 on the other hand is hit or miss. The 3 stations around me that sell e85, have all different e contents ranging from e60-e80 in the summers.

Also on depends on state regulations. Ohio has no regulations so we can get absolute crap gas in national chain stores
