WATER LEAK DESIGN FLAW IN ALL GC's!

I just bought a white Genesis Coupe 3.8 Track about 2 months ago and i love it, but there's one design problem, water leaks in on the passenger side foot well. The first time i noticed this was after we had a pretty good rainstorm and there was about a cup of water on my passenger side floor mat(they're rubber mats so i could see it). And I didn't think much of it but i would keep an eye on it. After our latest storm i could obviously tell water was dripping in. So i immediately took it to the dealership where i bought the car where they could check it out. They ran it through the car wash 3 times and it never leaked, but when they put water hose on the windshield so the water could run down into the area where the fresh air for the a/c is taken in and it leaked. The fresh air intake for the a/c is located at the base of the windshield area. If you open the hood and look at the back of the engine compartment you'll see a rubber seal that seals the rear of the hood and directly behind that seal in the middle of the car are about 20 or 30 little holes, and that is where your fresh air is being taken in. Now the area around this intake does not adequately drain water, which leads to a back up of the water and causes the leaking to occur(the leak only occurs when the car is parked, not moving). People with carpet mats probably dont notice this because the water is a limited amount, but its still water coming into your car. Hyundai said that they had no fix to this problem yet, but it's a factory defect and they need to come up with one soon. Keep your eyes out for water guys!

Not in mine. Sorry about your luck. Yes, I've washed my car at home with a hose.

On the other hand, welcome to the forums. Be sure to search or PM before asking! We're always willing to help those who help themselves!

6 out of 7 GC owners DO NOT have a water leak.

Mine doesn't do that but my old car did, turned out it was the sunroof water drain that was disconnected from where it was supposed to be causing water to drip in the passenger footwell and some other minor places.
7 out of 8 now ;)

If I point the hose in the gap I get sprinkles on the plastic separating the inside and door sill but nowhere near the floor

Mine leaks as well and as you said with carpet mats there was a small pond in my passenger and a little in the driver side. didnt realize it until i got out of the car after a storm ( from garage to garage ) and my steps left water behind. Car is deconstructed currently; cleaning and drying; then repairing.

There's a possibility the drain tube for the a/c filter system got clogged up with debris and mold causing the condensation to build up and overflow leaving it no were to go thus leaking water on the passenger floor board. I've seen it happen with many cars, some were brand new. The way to fix this is to blow pressurized air in the drain tube to free up the debris and mold caused by the condensation from the a/c system. This might be possible if they had the car running with the a/c on while running the water. Just a thought :)

Yeah I'd just say to OP to avoid doing the following:
1. Posting a title in ALL CAPS!
2. Declaring a design flaw with very little evidence.

Pics of the area would be helpful - since other gencoupe owners could simply tell you if something is missing. I know when I was running my tiburon I found out about 2-3 years into ownership that the factory simply did not put in a cabin air filter... just forgot. sometimes parts get missed, and it could be that yours didn't get a certain part. In fact check the manufacture dates of the other car - maybe someone on the assembly line had a day off. LOL

There are many members that are using rubber floor mats who have seen significant rainfall and never complained. There are also GC owners that have had leaky sun-roofs and trunks leak. Most of these problems could be considered build quality issues - but many of us haven't had these problems.

In the end - make the dealer figure out why it leaks - they owe you that.

Mine leaks if I roll down the window and pour water in.... Damn Hyundai...

Over 12k miles and no leaks anywhere. My car is only washed by hand. It is sitting out in the parking lot at work now under a pouring rain. I also have all weather mats installed so if there were any leakage I would see it. I don't think this is a design flaw, but either a minor manufacturing defect or clogged drain line as already stated. I remember having a drain line clog up on my Stealth. I investigated it and cleared it. Damn Mitsubishi! Why they did not consider Fall foliage debris in their design is beyond me.

There is another thread active on why you hate your Gen Coupe.

Actually, run your A/C for awhile and park your car. If you do not have a nice puddle of water under your car you have a clogged A/C drain line. If you do then keep looking.

this looks like the drainage for the top cowl section. the plastic cover where the wipers are.

Tell dealer to check under the cover. water is obviously not draining for that section properly.

BTW the hose drains to somewhere behind the rear of the fender. auto manufacturers have had the drain setup the same way for decades. its the same way on may datsun, but on my datsun, the drain pipe was like 1 1/2 inches.

All last winter mine was stored in a heated garage, no matter how much snow built up and melted, no leaks. It's sat outside in torrential downpours as well

This passenger side foot well leak happens in my car as well. Not very often, I've owned my GC a little over 2 years and put 53k miles on it and I would say its happened 5 times. At least 5 times that I have noticed.

EDIT* I also have a pretty crappy video of this happening from a while back on my iPhone, I will try and post it once I'm home from work later today.
