Sigh... well replacing the solenoid didn't make the problem go away as I thought :-( I'm now condemning the HKS BOV that came with the car when I bought it. The valve inside wasn't making a good seal so I took it apart to clean and inspect it and then I noticed it was really loose at the flange. Then it came off completely and I had to fight with that ****ing snap ring to get it back on and now it won't work at all. It's still loose at the flange so I bet it's not getting enough pressure to open. So I can hear the turbo flutter which I know isn't good either. I'm not sure what to do at this point. Any ideas?
