Title pretty much sums it up. I'm coming over after having been a pretty active RX8 modder for the past 8 years.

Have run the gambit mods wise. I do not plan on doing the same with my Genesis as it pretty much delivers the power it took me thousands of dollars, and countless headaches to achieve on my 8.

I see a couple novel modifications I'll probably fall for. A good CAI is always fun and I'm intrigued by this community's fascination with TB spacers.

I'm a software engineer by trade and have reverse engineered numerous platforms, although I doubt I'd be able to say the same for Hyundai. At most I will likely cook up a custom OBD2 app as I prepare a tablet PC install. I've also been in the CAR2PC scene for quite some time.

Anyway, this looks like a decent forum.... Far better UI/UX than what I'm used to with Internet Brand's RX8club website. I see it suffers from the same mindless bottom feeder search for me noobs and can assure y'all that is not how I roll.

Firstly, Welcome!!

Secondly, I said the same thing. I came from the Mazdaspeed community and was very active on that forum and with the members local to me. I picked up my 2015 R-Spec and told the finance, "No honey, this car has all the power I need stock, I probably wont do anything to it." I failed. Cat back was ordered in the first 2 weeks. SRI was ordered Friday. Parrot Android Smart was put in 2 weeks ago. Now I'm probably going to do the ATQ short shifter, bushings, and rear linkage....

The mod bug is a life long illness I'm afraid. It never goes away and can only be treated with semi-monthly tinkering on your car.

=D

That all sounds legit. I already looked up the price for a short shifter lol and decided before I put down my down payment that I would need a better shift knob.

The stuff I plan to keep away from is FI and insane engine management. I'm so done in that arena... The renesis engine (that I am coming from) was one heartbreak after another in that regard.

And since it appears the Hyundai ECU is still under lock and key I just don't see myself making much progress there. Give me full control, or at least access to the maps that matter.

Vanilla tunes with anything beyond suppressing an O2 CEL don't excite me all that much, although I am curious about high octane, as I've been running 93 forever.

Welcome! I live in Manayunk so we're pretty close by. Just bought my 2010 3.8 Track in March, and tinted it and got an SFR tune. I have a short throw shifter sitting at home, just waiting on my ATQ bushings to ship!

Oh yeah... Tint is another requirement as will be some decent (but cheap) winter wheels.

Funny how I've already got a list of things but won't be modding my car.

With the BBK and suspension already installed I don't see myself spending much time there.... Maybe SS lines at some point and aftermarket coilovers after 40-60k miles. I did notice ample lowering opportunities but don't believe in cutting springs. I do like a little poke and don't mind rolling fenders.

Winter driving your Genny? NOOOO please don't expose it's beauty to the harsh salt and sand! I'd almost GIVE you a good winter beater just so I don't have the thought of salt rot on your beautiful car! :crying::crying:

Congratulations on your purchase!! I have a friend with a highly built RX8 and I always laugh about the amount of downtime the vehicle has. I loved the old triple rotor RX-7 conversions. I can't imagine ever owning one though, I don't make enough, lol.

Let us know if we can ever help in any way. We have a 13 3.8 R-Spec as our current project car and have shaken it down pretty hard thus far. :D

Appreciate the welcome! After blowing a seal w/ 1600 miles on my freshly rebuilt motor two weeks ago I finally decided I've had enough.

I'll be slowly returning it back to stock and will probably offer it up as a trade in the next year or two when the wife is due for a new minivan.

Welcome dude! I wish I would have gotten the R-Spec... just purchased the base because I was told it had LSD. I am now in the market for either a factory LSD or an aftermarket.

I, like you, am staying away from forced induction. I am only doing exhaust, intake, LSD, and possibly suspension.

That pretty much sums it up and the OP fails to mention how much it costs for each of those itty bitty pieces of metal / ceramic required to get sufficient compression for the stupid thing to even run.

And if you need new housings its even more of a pain in the ass!

Yeah, I'm looking forward to a couple years of it being someone else's headache.

Before I start searching I figured I'd post in my own thread. I broke down under pressure and paid an extra 2k for a 10 year bumper to bumper warranty.

Now I'm curious as to the usefulness of it.

She's with me, all mine, and it took me all of 3 minutes driving to find the rev limiter in 2nd gear!

I picked up a couple little things today:

  • Flat black Genesis hood/trunk badges
  • Switchback front turn signal lights w/ resistors
  • Premium Stereo Bezel
  • Cube T7 7" Android tablet with GSM voice (in essence a phablet)

Also trying to track down a rear wing with 3rd brake light pre-painted Casablanca White (YW6).

Lotsa good references on this site

Welcome! In for custom obd2 app ;)

I'd contribute $100 to the "crack the TCM" fund... hehe

Sorry Capt, but I have to. Fortunately PA is known much more so for our potholes than high salt content winter roads. Suffice it to say during the winter I'm spraying my under carriage weekly regardless.

I do have a beater but it is such a pain to drive -- it is the ugliest Geo Prizm on the planet.

Awe, some tint and a CF dip on those hubcaps and you're rollin deep next winter!! Lol

In all seriousness, those Metro's are good reliable cars, and sounds like you've got your money's worth out of it a LONG time ago, which still begs the question: WHY the F drive the GC in winter??
