First of all, this thread has been dead for months, you aren't interrupting anything.
Second, we'd love to have you out here!
1) Are there any must go spots around seattle that are easy and cheap to visit?
-Nothing is cheap IN Seattle, but things are pretty easy to get to, what sort of sights are you interested in?
2)I'm a mechanical engineer and part of the reason I'm looking at seattle over portland is it seems microsoft and boeing have spurned alot more industry around Redmond... If I were to work in seattle or closer to redmond, are there younger areas that have more renters and room mates?
-I recommend applying at Boeing in either Renton or Everett (I work in Everett) both sites are doing LOTS of hiring right now. Seattle may be as well, I'm not sure, but that's the military side so things are a little different down there.
Everett and Seattle both have lots of potential for roommates, and Everett is pretty cheap (2bdrm, 2bth apt for <1k) Or you can rent a bedroom from me.
3) Whats the likelihood of getting a place with a garage (or is it primarily on street parking around there)?
-Seattle is nearly all street parking-even houses, Everett or Renton, Redmond apts will have parking lots, and most houses in those areas have driveways and usually garage as well. My garage has room for two cars and only one side is being used.
4) Whats the weather *really* like? People think colorado is super cold all the time when we get 300 days of sunshine a year and can hit 110 in the summer and 0 degrees in the winter. I know people say seattle is nothing but rain, but is it rain all day, or rain nearly every day but it'll break up and be gray or sunny, etc...
-It rains frequently, but usually not A LOT of rain (we get fewer inches/year than lots of other places, but it probably rains a little 250-300 days a year. We get a little bit of snow in the winter, and CAN get up in the 90's during summer; mostly it feels like spring/fall 80% of the year though.
5) Are you guys daily driving your coupes, or is there a need to park them for the winter? I've seen that washington seems to get some nasty frozen roads. Don't know if its a matter of freezing rain icing the roads, a lack of DOT trucks laying down salt or what... Do you guys get lots of inches of snow? Here we can get 2-8 inches of snow in the majority of storms and up to 2-3 feet in heavy storms.
-We usually only get a few inches a year in the major metropolitan areas, they don't salt at all, (sometimes sand though) and are NEVER prepared, even when the snow is forcasted a week or more ahead of time. Plus 90% of the people here don't know how to drive in the snow anyways so the problem is compounded much worse that it should be for only two inches of snow.
Most of us daily drive, I parked mine for a couple weeks when there was actually snow on the ground, but I probably didn't HAVE to, it's just better that way.
6) Annnnd.... If I do fly out there, anyone want to meet up?!
-I'll pick you up at Seatac. :hello:
