That is ****ing awesome. How does that work? Do they shut down the road? I'll have to look into that later. How much does it cost?

OK. so I have a 2011 gen coupe 3.8 MT. The clutch just grenaded on the way to work. I have owned the car since new......6months - september - 300kms. It now has 14,997kms (yes, we like to drive it) I take it into Finch Hyundai where we bought the car and they say that its a wearable part...and we may need to pay for the new clutch......all the cars we own are standard trans. How the HELL can a major company such as Hyundai allow their retailers to act this way. I paid extra for extended warranty to be treated as this is an uncommon issue that "they" have never heard of...and they have no T.S.B.s stating a problem.....if they cannot get this sorted, your looking at a new owner of an new Infinity G37x.
Have you tried going to a different dealer?

I thought about it but they already sent pictures of the clutch to Hyundai Canada... seems like they think I did it. Guess we should stop buying standard tranny cars....seeing as the last 2 still have a clutch and the new one does not. (One of em = Mustang) hmmm? guess ford still knows how to get things done after 200,000kms and not break at 15,000. Wait......oh yeah..... the 97' ford focus w/5speed and 102,000kms is ....hmmm....working?...of course but I guess my wife and I should drive differently. I also know that w/450HP on a stock T5 tranny in the mustang....still works....juz sayin. If I sound a bit angry....well for what I paid for this car I could have bought a 2012 Ford mustang 5.0 and still put $5,000 in upgrades in the car.....plus they would have warrantied w/no questions.. also juz sayin.

My wife was driving and we were on our way to my work....took the west on ramp 401 from airport road london, she went from 5th gear down to 3rd only it wouldn't engage 3rd....so we coasted onto the 401 at about 80km off to the side of the road. Now I got into the drivers seat, started the car in 1st gear, the car lurched forward with my foot pressed on the clutch pedal. Now, if you dont drive a hwy to often i can tell you that a semi doing 105 while ur sitting still on the shoulder of the road gets to you a wee bit. I was able to do the semi shift (like a transport truck) in the car once I got it started again in first....waited for the sweet spot for the tranny to grab 2nd gear and 3rd and so on. I made it to the dealership that I bought it at just to get told that basicly that if it is my fault (14,997kms - 6months old)I will have to pay for the clutch. The car sees mainly hwy. My wife works on the hwy and I drive on the 401 twice a day for 20kms each way to get to my work. I do drive a semi at my work and only realised the car would start and drive in first with the clutch gone on the side of the 401.

This is the second problem this car has had. The first was limp mode leaving from a red light which I was able to correct after a couple of restarts. I plugged my laptop into it and I got the same codes others have gotten with theirs so I just saved the codes and reset. They are permanently stored on the cars computer so I'll wait and see if they have removed them as well seeing as I was a bit angry with the repair costing money issue.

I believe someguydave is correct, if I recall from reading the owners manual the clutch should be covered for 20,000km. I would fight it or go to a different dealership. Clutch should not wear out that fast.

@ tyr, yeah I know its pretty awesome eh? I won't be doing it this year, but it is up there with Newfoundland Targa on my list of awesome road rally to do. They basically close down a section of highway between two towns in the middle of the Texan badlands. Not a lot around that area so it isn't that much of a big deal. It is a fully sanctioned event and you must either have your SCCA/NASA training or participate in driver training specifically for the event on pre-race days. All sorts of cars participate, from stock trucks to prepped race cars.

They want $3,000.00 for the clutch and labour.....wow, that just makes me sick. plus they will warranty that for 12 months or 20,000kms which ever comes first.

I would definitely look further into the 1 year 20k thing and see what thats about.

Otherwise, instead of getting the stock clutch, you may be better off buying an aftermarket one and paying another shop to install it. Make the best of a bad situation and replace the crappy stock clutch :dunno:

#402 ·
if they warranty the replacement that long why not the original???...im like you though all my vehicles I've owned either still had the factory clutch at 200,000km or was replaced after 150,000km or more. Last car had 220,000km factory clutch and still grabs no problem

i'm looking aftermarket atm. Figure I'd get the better of my situation as well. I'll need to get it towed of course......yippy :(

Competition Clutch Stage 2 and single mass flywheel is about $850 shipped to your door. I bought the same.

I recently called a few transmission shops for installation and the most expensive so far was Mr Transmission at $510+tax. I'm probably just going to pay my mechanic friend and do it in my driveway, but that should give you an idea of total cost if you don't have someone that can help you out.

Check out teknotik I bet they would do it for less, and they do quality work

Do any of you guys know where I can locate some quad burnt tips for my performance exhaust for my 2013 3.8 GT. Guys at GT custom exhaust and myself have had no luck sourcing them. Have everything in place for ARK header install to X pipe but want burnt tips for the finishing look. Any help appreciated.
