I heard Hyundai will be offering a package deal for both the regular GC's and GT's (with Brembos) for under $2,000. Likely even less but that was absolute worse case scenario given.
I was just looking around for winter tires today for the factory nineteens, I called up Wheels For Less (Wheels for Less Homepage) and was quoted 907$ for the 19 and staggered set up, hope this helps
Just wondering what kind of tires everyone is thinking of getting. One of the things holding be back from purchasing is going from an SUV to RWD. I have some interesting memories of driving my 300E in the snow. It was fun but dangerous as the wheels would just spin. However, I never put real snows on so that was probably the issue. How good are the all seasons that come on the base model?
I was out in Toronto last year in my Audi (Quattro) with a set of Kumho winter tires.
I was getting off the DVP onto Danforth and people that know the area, know theres a large incline you have to go up. There were pickups, Dodge Magnum, 3-series and a couple more that simply could not get up that hill after a nasty snow fall. Ended up just going around all of them like they were standing still...
problem is I noticed they were all RWD cars. The question that left me though seeing as it was Toronto, were they using winter tires? Or did they just have all seasons on?
I was going to grab a VW Golf that came /w winter for $1,000 or up for a Subaru Legacy /w winter for about $1,500, factor in insurance of around $500 on either, but got to thinking, let's say these tires are $2,000, I likely can turn around next fall and sell them for at least $1,500, so why not try it, worse that can happen I write the car off or I learn a lesson of RWD in winter. At least I will know...
with the GT model though, LSD + traction control, I think this car with the right rubber would do fine in the winter.
RudyH, i need to pick up winter rims and tires, a friend of mine had purchased 11 sets from tire team on university ave over the years and i will be going in to get a deal... the more people to come in on a buy the cheaper they will make it...

Ha, I was in there earlier today actually.. got a quote for Toyo Garit KX's.. $300 for 225/45/R18 and $346 for 245/45/R18.. The guy I spoke to, Lee, said they will be getting more stock in the coming month, and there should be more choice.
I was also looking at MSR wheels and he said that if I wanted a package deal with the winter tires, I'd be looking at around $1700 before tax.. Pretty steep if you ask me...

Shouldn't you be pricing for rims and tires one size down? Skinnier the tires, the less you get stuck.
Anywho, I got pricing for 215/50/17 + Steels for about 1300+tax. I'm iffy on the tire size...I'm still trying to aim for 205/55/17 ideally, so I'm close as possible to normal speeds as if I was running 18's
Sometime this week I think Alpine Hyundai said the official winter package deal from Hyundai was going to be released. I think next week I will drop by again though. They were saying under $2,000 including rims, but it's likely a small brand tire company.

One thing that I also worried about since I am not tire expert is our traction control. For example if you totally screwed up and put the rear tires on the front and fronts on the rear engine power will be cut above 100 km/h.
You'd be surprised between Kitchener / London we are part of the snow belt off Lake Huron.
Here's the deal - I'm getting my GCoupe in 2 weeks (apparently). After that, I'm going to find out what I can use for winter tires and steel rims through my dad's auto shop. I'm sure there's an inexpensive solution - stay away from Blizzak's, they are a rip off. Yeah they are great traction-wise, but they cost a fortune and they don't last very long.
On my current car (SRT-4) I've got a set of Toyo's that weren't THAT bad price-wise (I needed a weird size, too), and they were the best winter tires I've ever used. The treadwear is minimal - still look new after 2 seasons. Also got me through an impossible amount of snow leaving work one evening - I had to clear a path for other vehicles that couldn't make it out!
You should all be looking at tirerack... Blizzak WS-60's in 225/40R/18 and 245/40R/18 (yes, it's around a 1/2 inch shorter sidewall so you will be out around 3%) are going for around $160 per (USD of course). After shipping, taxes and duty and all you are still coming out better than $300 a tire. If you want to drop down to 17's and get some cheep rims it's not much more as the 18 inch rubber is more expensive than the 17's.
Sticking with 18's works out to being ~$940 USD shipped with duty and taxes to Manitoba ($1,050 CDN).
Moving to 17's works out to being ~$1,450 USD all in ($1,600 CDN).
I'm also considering Michelin's X-Ice Xi2's or some Blizzak LM-60's which are apparently WS-60's with a higher speed rating which come in the proper sizes, I just can't find any proper tests of the rubber, just "Wow they are so much better than driving on my summer rubber!!" which goes without saying.

If all of you guys are livig close enough, it would be a good idea to purchase whole bunch all together from a shop.
You will more likely get a good deal if you buy 5 sets than a set individually.
So I went to the dealership, and Hyundai advised that it only recommends 18" for the GT / Track pacakge. The package from Hyundai is $2,200.
Rims in the package come in both gun metal and regular silver for $840 for 4 = $210 each

The thing that will make you guys laugh...I went to 5 different shops, and the Hyundai dealership had the cheapest by a rather large margin using Hyundai rims and major tire manufacture.
17" WILL fit on the base / premiums as well they provide you with a much more narrow rubber so you cut through snow rather then sit on it = better traction
although i havent gotten my GC yet (it's still at sea:mad2 i think that pkg is pretty f-ing pricey if you ask me... sounds like ur better of getting a winter beater... problem for me is that i only have a single car garage and a short driveway...any suggestions guys? anyonw else found any better deals? I'm starting to think tirerack.com might be the better way to go
If I missed this in an earlier post, my apologies. I assume that 18" rims will fit over the Brembo calipers. What about 17"? Two inches is probably too much of a drop anyway.
So, we found a rim to test fit on the Genesis Coupe GT / Track.
CE Wheels CE006 - 17" - $170 /each = $680
225/50R17 Falken Eurowinter - $185 / each = $740
$1420 - tack on then $80 labor and $25 government tire fee whatever
the reason why the 17" rubber is kinda pricey is because of the odd size of tire
or through the dealership I noticed they had wider tires so reworked their stuff

Thing that keeps me thinking though, price of 17" rubber use to be like the 18", until more and more companies started going bigger. How many times did I remember catching myself saying '17" is big enough, 19 is ridiculous!!' Till I am driving it today...
just bought a pair a of 18 inch rims for the winter and im still debating on what type of tire to go with. the place i went told me that the Blizzak WS-60's were the way to go but they didnt have any that would fit on 18's and the rims i picked didn't fit so nicely when they were 17's. all around im looking at about $1,650. and im thinking about leaving the rims on and just changing the tire for winter and summer because the rims i got are very nice.

I'm in the same boat as others looking for Winter tire options. I inquired at the dealership and they have a few packages available. One 17" rim package came with Falken tires were around $1,620 + taxes.
I got another quote from TIRES23 for a set MSW TYPE 12 BRIGHT SILVER 17x8 with 225/50/17 FRONT and 225/55/17 REAR for $1560 /set taxes and mounting/balancing included. I believe these were a Bridgestone snow tire.
1010tires.com has pirelli sottozero winter tires in the stock 18" wheel size for around $1000 CAD and it's free shipping too. (Thread is in Suspension -> Winter Boots)
The place i went to get my tires told me that they can get bridgestones that are apparently the best for winter, it will take about 2-4 weeks for them to come in and im counting down the days.
I just sent an email to Diamond Racing wheels to get a quote on a set of custom 17" steel rims that would fit the Brembo brake package. Custom made Steelies could maybe be made to fit non-Brembo equipped cars with a diameter of 16" but total diameter and width would probably get screwed...
I'll go for 17", Up North, in winter, look is pretty irrelevant. cost+Performance is what matters. I also don't give a darn about a messed up speedo reading as long as the alignment is not totally out.

In theory if your rear tires are spinning as fast as the front tires, ABS/TCS *should* be ok with 45's on 17". I'll have to keep that in mind unless someone says other.
17 inch rims will fit over the brembros providing you shave off some of the front calipers don't know how that's done but i saw it myself at attrell hyundai's racing cars that were on display at hyundai sundai three weeks ago. hope that helps
The 17"s I quoted above, I was was told that they were sent for test fit to Hyundai on the GT and they cleared. I think it's all about the offset, the Brembos fit under 17"s, tight but fit. I had a 17" steelie test fitted and it cleared but it was the middle part that was the problem.
Sooooo heavy, and with the price of alloy wheels these days, it's almost the same price to buy alloys.
