I don't know yet which axle the speedometer is attached to, but I would assume it would be the rear axle. In that case running a wheel whose overall diameter would cause the speedometer to read 3% higher or lower is not advisable.
The unfortunate part is that because we don't know exactly what won't work (only some of what will work) we don't want to guess either and like you said when it comes to $2000 wheels and tires, it really is better to play it safe.
I'm sure most posters (especially with the GT) have had the same experience. You walk into a wheel and tire shop and they can't really help you 'cause the car is not in the catalogue. That happened to me a bunch of times.
I stopped into a place called Exclusive Wheel and Tire in Ajax and almost cried when the guy glanced at the car and said "okay, I think I have a rim that will clear the Brembos on that car." He actually knew a little something about this car which, in my experience, is quite rare in local tire stores. He got a sample wheel in (a couple of samples in fact), test fitted it and now I'm a happy customer. Happy in no small measure because this is costing me many hundreds less than the dealer wants. As a bonus, the wheel offset (+40) is closer than the dealer provided wheel (+48).
I got Ikon CE008 18" rims (probably a bit heavy....not the prettiest rim ever....not fugly either) +40 8". The rims are fine for winter. Dunlop WinterSport M3..Staggered fittment FF:225/45/18 RR:245/45/18. Don't have the bill in front of me...Package was just under 1700 + Ontario's TSF (unavoidable here) + tax
I just verified that 225/55/17 all around doesnt fit.
Put drivers side front on, and its in contact with the rubber nub that hands from the lower perch. I could cut the nub off, but its a bad sign to start with, not a lot of clearance. Im sure the wheels and tires would be perfect for the back.
Needless to say, they are back up on Kiji, hopefully I can sell em and find something else!
the hyundai packages are kind of expensive. $1429 for no namers with rims up to 1939 for yokahamas with rims. there was also a package in the middle i believe it was 1700 ish. this is for non brembo coupes. I ended up getting toyo garit kx i am just getting them mounted on the stock 18s. it will give me a good excuse to get some 19 or 20s in the spring
that's what I did as well.. curious - what sizes did you go with?
I ended up getting 225/45/18 all around (to save some money on an already expensive purchase) but I'm now worried that the TCS will be all screwed up. Too late to do anything about it as they've already been mounted so guess I'll have to wait and see..
I am under the impression that the car somehow uses feedback from the braking system to do this. If the Canadian cars even have this feature, that is. Someone needs to clarify. In fact, I don't even know why I'm posting this...
I also got the Hankook iPike W409's. The look like i can climb walls, and that is what i wanted. Loud as hell on the road, but i am more interested in grip when the roads get bad than anything else. The quiet smooth performance winter tires do f**k all when the roads get bad, especially in a rear wheel drive car.
I got them with a set of RTX wheels (215/55r17) front and rear for about $1150 installed.
GO SEE ALAN @ SIMPLY TIRE in Toronto. He will take care of you. Great shop!!!!
I don't know.. I've emailed him before since I live an hour away to ask about specific rims and and his first response was very dry and seemed like he didn't really want my business.. After I asked him about other rims they carry in a specific color and specific offset, he didn't get back to me at all. Needless to say I never bothered with that place again
Iceman, sorry to hear that. I hve had nothing but iustanding service from him. However, keep one thing in mind (cause I had trouble with it too), this time of year, these tire places are swamped and most don't even answer the phone. I know what it's like when you have 15 cars to get done and people are calling to ask questions about every rim and offset and price. I basically walked in, introduced myself. Told him I needed wheels and tires for a gen coupe and tires only for an altima. He showed me right away what he had to offer and within 4 days ( on my schedule, not his) has both cars done and out the door much cheaper than any other shop in town or online.
I know you are out of town and can't just pop in, but it's winter tire season and these guys are just going crazy trying to keep up.
I'm holding out until December. Its just not cold enough yet on a consistent basis. 13 degrees and sunny this weekend is not going to be good for the winter tires!
Thanks a lot for reading this. I think I am one of the most confused member of this forum.
I live in Toronto and am planning to buy the GC 2.0T GT version in January. But I wanted to research around for winter tires now so I am prepared.
It seems like there is no concrete answer on this forum to what fits on the coupes with Brembos.
I want dedicated wheels for the winters. But as everyone I want to keep costs down.
1. I tried using tirerack site for selecting the tires but when I select the wheel + tires, it tells me to get same tires for all 4 wheels. Is this the way to go? Or do I have to get the 225/40R19 and 245/40R19?
2. What wheel + tires would fit on the brembos (other than the stock 19)?
3. Is the only option to get Bridgestone Blizzak LM-60 and put them on stock 19"? and then buy rims for the stock summer tires?
4. I read that the stock 18" also fits....is there anywhere I can buy these?
I have been reading on this for the last 3 days and I am about to crack almost. I really want the GT package but spending another $2000K for dedicated wheels + tires is becoming hard.

There are a lot of options, but you will probably have to part with about $2000. You can get the same tires all the way around (and it will probably be a bit cheaper). You _might_ be able to get steel wheels (and that might be a bit cheaper...but will look awful). You don't want to pay for the OEM 18" wheels (which you can probably order for a lot of money from Hyundai).
If you want to travel west, check paulster2626's earlier posts in this thread. If you want to travel east, check my earlier posts. Going to tire/wheel shops is quite tiresome because most of them only look in catalogues -- and your car isn't in the catlogue yet. So look for one that understands the profile of your Brembo brakes. Once you have a profile that matches the calipers, look for a wheel offset that's pretty close to stock. (You don't want the wheel sticking out or pulled in too much....a little bit is fine) After that, get the lightest rim you can. But spend as little as possible on the rims because you'll be running them in winter, so they will look worn faster than you would like...and if you get cheap rims, they won't be all that light.
And don't think of it as parting with $2000 for nothing. You're merely buying a set of tires in advance. You were going to use that much rubber eventually anyway. But you will be spending extra money on rims. Not much you can do about that.
It's important that the front/rear diameters stay within about 3/4" of an inch of each other to keep traction control and such happy. So using the same size all around isn't the best idea from what my techs are saying. Being a 2010 and the first winter season for the car we are still working out our site to reflect the proper fitments. There are notes and things about fitment I can see on my end that are not online at this time. Posting, pm'ing, or calling me direct is probably best for now.
Most have plans on going with an 18" package over 19" snows on oe wheels. You'll save $ over a 19" package and gain a bit better ride and protection to the wheel during the season, where there's the most debris on the road. Buying an 18" pack will cost more up front, however, it saves the hassle of taking the car in twice a season to a shop and lowers your chances of mounting damage to the wheel and/or tire. If you keep the car long enough the wheels will pay themselves off over the years in mount/balance costs.
Any of the wheels we have listed online will fit the car perfectly fine. There should be 18-20" options listed via our year, make, model selection on the site. Typically people will go the lesser expensive route for winter as they will be abused more than summer wheels. The winter selector is prompting people to call in right now due to staggered requirement. A restriction that should drop off once more data is entered online.
In the 18's it looks as if the Blizzak LM60, Dunlop Winter Sport M3, Michelin Pilot Alpin PA3, Michelin X-Ice XI2, and Pirelli Winter 240 are the options. The XI2 would be the most aggressive option for best ice/snow traction. The others are more sport based options for low snow climate areas. The oe 19" sizes only offer the soon to be discontinued Blizzak LM25 and new Blizzak LM60. So again, the 18's are a better fit and offer a larger range of options.
225/50/17 front
225/55/17 rear
and that's on my GT cleared the brembros
using ikon wheels and sonny winter sport tires
$1400 all in. Steele case tires and mags.
wodbine/steeles area look em up...
Unfortunately I screwed up too... the wheels I got dont have enough offset, so the lower control arms in the front hit the inside of the wheel
So frustrated! I now own 4 17" rims and 8 17" tires trying to put together a set of winters for this thing! hahaha.. starting to become an expensive endeavor!
1. Successful Winter Wheel + Tire Combo with Pictures/Price/Location of Purchase for Brembos
2. Successful Winter Wheel + Tire Combo with Pictures/Price/Location of Purchase for WITHOUT Brembos
This would be very helpful for us wanting to buy the winter tires.....just a thought :F
