I decided against in the end getting a winter beater. Mostly cause of justification reasons.

(being single + Genesis Coupe + winter beater + eventually get a sport bike = 3 vehicles + 1 person doesn't make sense)

Anyone find any winter / rim deals? I want to jump on it sooner then later.

Need winter tires

So i had to take my car in to the dealership for a noise that was coming from the front of my car when the car was in neutral and clutch was up. Thats a whole different story. So they said that they were having a great sale on winter tires and i should jump on it cause they were getting rid of thier old stock for new sets. I thought if its a sale how bad could it be, so i asked. There great deal that was sooo amazing????????? 2400+tax:eek: Then there like oh well change your tires every season. I was like thanks but im doing a square set up and have a amazing toll called a torque wrench at home and I know how to put on 5 bolts.

So still looking for a set if any finds anything PM me or ill just keep checking here...

Here is a million dollar question do they sell 18 inch steelies???

Yes, look-up for a Macpek distributor in your area.

Macpek

I don't remember if 18" steelies fit the Brembo though...

I had mine installed at "go for tires" in Richmond hill, very professional , amazing service. Very good prices, I am very happy with the alloy rims and tires I bought.

Aamir

Hankook Ipike W409 --- front 225/50/R17 and rear 225/55/R17
EK-1 17X8 10 x 120 -144.3 TECHART FORMULA REPLICAS (MADE IN MALAYSIA ...i think)
$1239 + tax = $1400 all included....that was last year

The tires are amazing in the snow....ps have to get different size as the traction control will not function properly

how much did you pay and what size alloy rims and tires

Probably mentioned already but Tires23 is where I went. Pretty good pricing.
same question, what size/brand and price

thanks

Ive had the W300 tires before and they were not that great in the snow. Better in the wet conditions and when the roads were dry, but crap in the snow and slush. I found the W409 a much better tire all around and I will probably go with them this winter.

i was able to get some quotes for staggered and square setups

price difference between the 2 setups ranged from $10-30 difference for the 4 tires

any comments?

i drive about 10k a year so probably 5k per winter season (assuming nov-march/april changeover

tires available in stagger & square 225/50/17+225/55/17
Hankook W409 I*Pike
Hankook W300 Icebear
Semperit Speed Grip

tires available in square only 225/55/17

You can add to this list the Nokian hakkapeliitta 5 studded tires. I got the not studded version for my car. They are amazing for Ice and snow but needs to be treated gently on pavement as to not abuse their edge of the tread blocks.

I am thinking of doing: Michelin X-ice xi2
F:225 45 R18
R:245 45 R18
However, what will happen if I do this...
F:215 45 R18
R:225 45 R18

Would the Traction Control Screw up?

Even this setup: Hankook Ipike W409
F:225 50 R18
R:245 45 R18

Please let me know your thoughts and experiences on these setup for Winter as I want to keep my OEM 18"s dedicated for Winter.

On a few occasions but VERY rarely.. Mine would sometimes go off when I drove over pot holes at 30+ km/h or when hitting large dips in the road going 100+ on the highway. Never anything that would interfere with driving though.. Just gotta let go off the gas for a second and step back on it

Good tires are available off Tirerack.com which is where I got mine...Michelin Xi Ice II or whatever for like $650, I then just found cheap steels at a shop here and I had my tires for about $1000. I was offered a similar deal as others here with the Hankook tires but honestly it was a little more waiting and work but I got a better quality tire for the same money. I have ran Hankooks through a winter before and was very unimpressed.

Simply Tire has their 2010/2011 winter group buy on now.
[FS] 2010/2011 Massive RFD Winter Tire Package Groupbuy - SimplyTire - RedFlagDeals.com Forums

I emailed them and was replied to very quickly. With the prices they quoted, Im definately going with them. I asked about the 18" steel wheels that Macpek has on their website. If I can get alloys that fit Id rather go with them anyway.

Hey Mike,

I seriously doubt that steel wheel will clear the Brembos. However, I have
17" lightweight Advanti wheels that clear your Brembos... I've done about
12 of them last year.... and dozens of non-brembos.

Genesis Coupe (Brembo)(Alloy Option)
Option 1 - $1,090.00
4 x 215-55-17 Hankook W409 iPike
4 x 17" Aluminum Wheels
4 x Plastic Tire Bags
4 x Mount, Balance and Install

Option 2 package with Bridgestone Winterforce - $1,120.00
Option 3 package with Hankook W300 - $1,170.00
Option 4 package with Dunlop Graspic DS2- $1,290.00
Option 5 package with Michelin X-ice2 - $1,340.00
Option 6 package with Bridgestone Blizzak WS60 - $1,350.00
Option 7 package with Toyo Garit KX - $1,440.00

Square setup is nice for rotatability... but we can work with that if you
really want. There is a lot of false info online about running square
setups will trigger some TCS light, but it is untrue.

#247 · (Edited)
allen told me the same thing....but it has proven by many memebers in
this forum that square setup will trigger TCS @ high speed when
hittin' a pot hole or bumps.... i rather go staggered and be safe...

i got quoted $1350 for 225/45 & 245/45/18 mount on OEM 18"s for Michelin Pilot Alpin PA3......

but across border PA3 is around $1200CAD all in, if you have to pay duty...
if no duty, it's around $1140ish CAD...

#248 ·
I've read all those threads too. I've also read plenty from people who have had zero issues running a square setup. The TCS is being triggered from the bumps and potholes because the tires are possibly losing contact with the road for a split second. I don't really consider it a huge problem. Allen also said a staggered setup can be used. I will trust his word over random information on this forum. Everyone has the own opinion on the subject good and bad. Either way SimplyTires prices are great.

#249 ·
i've decided to go with the 215 width...its the same price for either 55/60 series....so i can do square at 215/55/17 or stagger with 215/60/17 in the rear

still deciding (but will pick hankook w409 ipikes)...

with stagger i will not be able to rotate at all because of the directional tires (unless i dismount/mount for side-to-side rotation every 2 years or so since i drive so little in the winter)

with square i am worried about tcs but also would like longevity....but seeing as how little i'll drive in winter, i can probably make them last 5-6 years...

Hey guys,

This is my first time buying winter tires (so I don't really know what I'm doing) and my friend is selling their Blizzak WS60 Winter Tires 225/60/R17, will this fit on the genesis? Thanks!

#258 ·
Can't use 225/60/17 as they are too tall. For winter, I would suggest downsizing to 17" (base/premium models only). I recommend either

225/50/17 Front
225/55/17 Rear

OR

225/50/17 Front and Rear

You would need to buy new rims to use the 17".

#262 ·
A directional tire is designed to roll in only one direction and are intended to be rotated from the front to the rear, not side-to-side. The GC uses different sized tires front and back, so you cant rotate your wider rear tires to the front.

Ive noticed a few GC owners of the SimplyTire list, so I guess everyone is happy with the pricing.

I sent allen an email and this is the price i got

Hi,

Staggered LM60 will be $1,160.00
18" wheels for Brembo will be $720.00

All labor is included. Taxes are not included.

Cash will yield you a 3% discount on the tax end.

At this price might as well go with hyundai I got quoted the same price

j/ wanna let u guys know, i got my 225/45, 245/45/18, Michelin Pilot Alpin PA3 on OEM wheels for $1008USD tax/mount/balance....
and paid $112 tax @ border no duties charged...
now that the dollars are @ par.....it was good for over border shoppin'...and buyin' tires.

since the customs knows i bought $1000 tires, they didn't even bother askin' me if i bought anything else (like clothes, lady bags, etc.) and j/ decided to hit me on the tires.

i got my tires from buffalonytires.com Canadian buyers get 10% off...

the PA3 were expensive (still cheaper than toronto).....but if u want the directional LM-60, Xi-2, WS70....they are far far cheaper than GTA..., their prices are similar to tirerack + shippin' in USA...for my PA3, buffalonytires were few bucks cheaper than tirerack....and labour was cheaper too
