I decided against in the end getting a winter beater. Mostly cause of justification reasons.

(being single + Genesis Coupe + winter beater + eventually get a sport bike = 3 vehicles + 1 person doesn't make sense)

Anyone find any winter / rim deals? I want to jump on it sooner then later.

The dealer here in Halifax now have a sheet with their winter tire packages.
They offer two different 17" rims, 17x7.0, gunmetal or titanium for non-brembo and 18" gunmetal for brembo.
17" tires are F-225/50R17 and R-225/55R17 in Roadstone WIN Sport, Falken HS439, and Yokohama IG20.
18" tires are F-225/45R18 and R-245/45R18, as above but no Roadstone.
Prices for rims 17" $659 & $699 18" $749
Packages 17" start at $1419
18" start at $1889
I'm not typeing it all in but I take requests, they have it broken down for just rims, just tires and each package (rim and tire)

Thanks for the help guys. I will make more calls and I just did some more shopping. For 18"s on stock rims and looking just at the tires:

Toyo Garit KX for $1292 (everything in) + there is an $80 rebate, so $1212 about.

Kumho i'Zen KW27 for $1016.28 (everything in) + there is a $40 rebate, so about $976.28.

More calls will come but there are many different tires and most stores don't carrry the same ones so it is difficult to compare.

I am leaning on the Toyo's since I'll do about $5000 km a year and those should last 5 years.

From my email from SimplyTire...
225/45/18
Bridgestone Blizzak WS70 - $1,000.00
Bridgestone Blizzak LM60 - $1,050.00
Michelin PA3 - $1,140.00
Pirelli W210 Sottozero - $1,170.00
Yokohama IG20 - $1,220.00

Prices do not include tax but do include mounting balancing etc. I've read alot of people use the Blizzaks and are happy with them. Myself and mostly everyothet Genesis owner getting their tires from Simply are getting the Hankook W409s. I've used them before and they are a great tire IMO.

Thanks MTD.

I'm calling them today.

Those prices for those tires seem more expensive then:
Toyo Garit KX for $1292 (everything in) + there is an $80 rebate, so $1212 about.

Kumho i'Zen KW27 for $1016.28 (everything in) + there is a $40 rebate, so about $976.28.

Since those are taxes in. Plus it saves the drive.

I'll inquire about the Hankook W409s though. Are they better then Kumho's?

No experience with either sorry. The Garit gets lower reviews on 1010tires then the W409 from what Ive read. Ive had the 409 on 2 different cars and they were great IMO. The groupbuy is closed so the prices might go up slightly. Call Simply and find out.

Yup they are. I just saw that you have the GT one. Ever thought of going across the border and buy there? My dad ordered a new set of Yokohama Prada Spec-X all season tires for his Volvo XC90 from tirerack for $584 and got it installed in buffalo for $100.

For your GC you can get a set of Michelin X-Ice Xi2 for $704 plus a $70 rebate totalling $634 plus roughly about $100 installation which totals $734.

Yup I did. I go across the border several times a month already as it is. I couldnt be bothered with the possible hassle from customs or hidden charges shipping them to Canada. Besides, bringing an extra set of wheels/tires home inside the Genesis might prove to be diffacult. I shopped around and SimplyTire gave me the best price for what I wanted. Better then Tires23 actually and I usually get all my tires from them.

i'm stickin' w/ my Pilot Alpin PA3~will let everyone know after the winter if it's worth the extra cost~
The Michelin tires are rated very high and they are supposed to be a great tire. I have a buddy with a TSX and he swears by them. I picked my tires based on personal preference. Ive used the Hankooks before and I never had any issues with them.

I consider personal experience far more accurate and reliable then Consumer Reports.

Not matter what tires anyone picks, winter tires are a great investment on any car especially a RWD car like the GC. Even a crappy winter will perform better then an all-season tire.

hey guys, Ive been going through this site, in deciding between square and staggered Im finding comflicting posts.

If im looking to do a square setup, am I supposed to go 225/50/17 all around or 225/55/17 all around?

Should I be basing the square size on the larger rear tires or the smaller front tires?

17" alloy are approx. $200 extra and more

$80 mail in rebate for Dunlop
$50 mail in rebate for Bridgestone

Thanks"

I haven't heard back from simplytire, I asked them about their 17" alloys. There tire prices are a bit cheaper than tires23, but it depends on how much they want for alloys. I'm not a fan of poverty rims so I'm looking for a cheap pair of 17". Does anyone know what they (simplytire) have to offer and prices for 17's?

The 17s I'm getting are a simple 5-spoke design and they are the only 17" wheels that will fit over the Brembo brakes. If you don't have Brembos then I'm sure there are alot more choices for wheels.

Oh and this time of year they are insanely busy so if they don't reply asap that's why. I had to schedule my appointment almost 2 months in advance.
