I decided against in the end getting a winter beater. Mostly cause of justification reasons.

(being single + Genesis Coupe + winter beater + eventually get a sport bike = 3 vehicles + 1 person doesn't make sense)

Anyone find any winter / rim deals? I want to jump on it sooner then later.

Hey Cavalier, just a heads up, I went and placed my deposit down yesterday and I asked about the alloys, the guy said 300-400 even though I mentioned that you were quoted 200, he said that it wasnt available anymore...:dunno:

Its a shame cause for just $200 more I wouldve liked to have gotten the alloys

Only certain wheels will fit so you can't just use any 17. Allen from SimplyTire told me that the wheels he supplies he uses on cars similar to the GC that have big brakes like the 350/370 and the Infinity coupes. Apparently the shape of the inside of the wheel and the curve of the spokes gives enough clearance for the brakes. Compareable 18 alloys with tires would have been about $500 more.

Yup, typically, you need a low offset wheel for 17" to work with Brembos. Don't even bother trying it on if it's anything above +30 offset. Added benefit is OK fitment (look wise) of those low width+low offset winter set-up...

Short high jack here, but I can't believe your GT guys can rock 17's. Saves alot of $$.
Gives us a ton more choice of tire brand, type and size too.

I'll be shopping for summer 17" eventually. Wide and light is want I want.

18"x8.5 Mitsubish Evo Rims by Enkei
225/45/18 and 245/45/18 Toyo Observe Garit KX

What a pain, first it was the lug nuts not fitting (OEM from the 19" were too small). Then I needed 5mm spacer on front because it was rubbing.

On another note, the OEM 19" are HEAVY. What a difference with 18" rims/tires on.

I got my tires and rims from tirerack. Got 18" rims and snow tires that just fit over the Brembo brakes. If you check there from time to time you can find awesome deals. For my last car I got 20" rims and tires for under 1200.00 around here the lowest quote I got was 4500.00. Can't post pictures yet but check my profile for my album to see it.

Here's his post from a few pages back:

j/ wanna let u guys know, i got my 225/45, 245/45/18, Michelin Pilot Alpin PA3 on OEM wheels for $1008USD tax/mount/balance....
and paid $112 tax @ border no duties charged...
now that the dollars are @ par.....it was good for over border shoppin'...and buyin' tires.

since the customs knows i bought $1000 tires, they didn't even bother askin' me if i bought anything else (like clothes, lady bags, etc.) and j/ decided to hit me on the tires.

i got my tires from buffalonytires.com Canadian buyers get 10% off...

the PA3 were expensive (still cheaper than toronto).....but if u want the directional LM-60, Xi-2, WS70....they are far far cheaper than GTA..., their prices are similar to tirerack + shippin' in USA...for my PA3, buffalonytires were few bucks cheaper than tirerack....and labour was cheaper too

Hey guys, need your help, I just bought a set of Blizzaks, but just the tires. Is there a good place (in the GTA) with good prices for installing them on steelies and balance and install them? Thanks for any input!

Got My Tires From Simply Tire

Zelfiris and AQblue you guys both got your tires from simply tire, i got a black genesis coupe 2.0t and i purchased exact same set as zelfiris the hankook ipike with the same rims. Since you both went down in size to 215 did you have to get your tires realigned because i find my car is pulling to the left pretty heavily but when i spoke to a mechanic i know he said the 215 tires may be too small causing it to pull and an alignment may not fix it. If someone could help me out a little that would be great .... Thanks

seems to be fine though and i've driven for the past 3 weeks without problems, though i think tomorrow i will have to check the air pressure

could be they didnt balance it properly, i had a few weights on my steelies

Got my winter tires in at simply tire, literally just walked in, asked for advanti 17 alloy in gun metal, and hankook w409, took the last one they had in stock too, walked out an hour later. Very good service, fast on track and reasonable price of $1200 everything.

pics of what it looks like on my grey gen.

it looks nice, especially the color, and thank god for these 17inch wheels or else i'd be paying more for 18inch just to clear the brembos.

Possibly the set I ordered. I canceled my order cause I got a good deal on OEM 18's and the car wont be driven much.

Yay, my wheels
Do you plan on keeping the all seasons on the car for the winter?
Yup, they look great. The tires are still perfect and I wont be driving the car much, so Im using them for now. Once the bad snow hits in January, I will prob get winters then.
