Hey guys, just purchased a 2016 Gen Coupe GT and figured I'd join up and offer my assistance.
I sell tires/rims for a living and am willing to answer any questions / inform you on what we (as a retailer) pay for stuff as well as mark up, so that you can know what you should be paying.
Not really looking to make any sales but I can offer my insight as to what price you should be paying from your own local tire shops.
*Send me a pm if you are in the Ottawa area and I may be able to sell you something directly.
Wow that's a big markup!!
The guy i buy tires from, usually beats or matches competitors quotes, and he tells me he barely makes any profit on tires. I'm wondering if he's been BSing me all this time....
So they make 20% and also make some off of balancing, etc..
He may or may not be BSing you, the thing is not every re seller is purchasing the tires at the same cost, there are different discount brackets depending on volume/territory etc... Next time you are due to purchase, let me know which tire it is and I'll tell you what my cost on it is and you can go from there. And yes, the install and balance basically costs the dealer nothing, so its pure profit from there. For example, I know if i throw $50 on top of a tire I'm paying $200 for at cost that I'll be right in line to beat Canadian Tire or Walmart's price.
Depending on the shop bigger shops usually mark up less and charge you more for labour. Shop i work at only marks up about 15% with minor charges for install to compete with big shops
