Any Genesis owners here in Co?

I just bought my coupe last week; 2.0T Track in silver. I'm on the north side of Denver.

It supposed to be a pretty nice day in the Metro tomorrow, any of you guys interested in meeting up? Looks like most of you are down south so we could do it down there someplace.

Just bought mine last week. I'm in Aurora/Centennial (southeast denver). I might be moving up near boulder though, just got a new job. You'll be able to catch me at some of the denver autocrosses though. :D

EDIT: oh yeah, black 2.0T r-spec.

I'd love to have a meet or some sort of get together up here. Sounds like most people are down on the south side of town so we could do it down there.

Nothing I am aware of but I would be up for something.

So I've spotted 4 GC's in colorado, one i know for sure is a member here.

LR Green std. model in Parker (member)

Blue std. model in Fort Collins

Blue, not sure what model, in Aurora (225 and parker rd)

NS Gray, not sure what model, in Centennial (Parker rd and chambers rd)

Anyone hang around these areas? I always wave, but I doubt most people see the wave. Most sightings have come and gone very quickly.
No, I usually stay around the north side of Denver.

That Grey one might have been me. I'm right around parker/arapahoe but go up there all the time. Haven't seen many other coupes around tho :( You posted this about a week after I got it.

Hey guys! I currently have a 13 second S/C Tiburon I may be selling to my buddy and buying a Gen. I want the V6 and manual tranny but I'm pretty sure I can only afford the base model. My questions are should I wait until the next model year because there's something new/more power/features I should be aware of coming out? Should I get the 2010 model after the 11s come out because the price will drop? Is it worth spending the extra few thousand on the GT or Track? I'm almost certain I couldn't afford the track but is the GT really worth springing for? Does anyone know someone at a dealership willing to give me a deal for being a friend of a friend or a veteran or student? (lol always gotta ask about that last part!) THANKS GUYS and hope to be rolling with you all soon in Mirabeau Blue if I have my way!

If your still looking... I would spring for it NOW while the 2011's are starting to roll. They need to move their older inventory off the lots. Thats partly why I got mine for a Hell-of-a deal. Now is the time to get one IMO, and YEAH, go for the track.

I didn't bother with the Hyundai off of Arapahoe... they were not willing to deal, just saying "we sell the most in Colorado and have the biggest inventory"... so F'n what! I went to the newer McDonald Hyundai, they were really willing to deal and have FAR better customer service/support IMO. Cheaper prices for maintenance too.

We can't really tell you what to buy, it's really up to you. You ask if the track/rspec packages are worth it... Depends on what you want. I wanted to be fast in the corners and in the straights, so I got the r-spec. I didn't like the leather, or the sunroof, didn't need HID's, so why get the track?

You have a 13 second tiburon, so it sounds like you like going fast in a straight line. If that's the case the base V6 should do you fine. I'd test drive the V6 and the turbo one evening back to back. I say evening, because in the heat of the day, that turbo will be heat soaked, but I can't imagine that the V6 is *that* much quicker with all this altitude. And if it is, and you like going fast straight, you should look at the mustang V6, which is only .2 seconds slower than last year's V8 GT and gets something like 36mpg because of selective cylinder shutdown. If you stick with the genesis, realize with a reflash and an exhaust you could be pushing 290 ft-lbs of torque and 240hp. If you're a fan of stop light racing and in town cruising torque is what matters. If you like romping on the highway, horsepower matters. So for $1200 or so you can match the V6 torque performance. But you can't match its sound. I'll admit the V6 sounds heavenly. I do love my beyond redline catback though... I floor it through every tunnel and overpass I can.... sorry tangent...

Now! if you want to do the sport suspension and enjoy what makes this car really stand apart from the other 20k two doors, I would highly encourage you to step into a track or rspec turbo. Though, if you want blue, you'd have to go track (which puts you right below the cost of the v6 base). With that said, the turbo track is going away in 2011. The 2011 models will have an "upgraded interior" replacing some of the dense plastic in the interior with a soft touch vinyl, and the steering wheel will be wrapped in a different leather. The silver interior accents have been switched to a dark metal grain.

Again, your decision on what you feel is important. If you want to PM me I'll tell you where I bought mine, I paid 22,800 for my rspec after taxes were added in. So I got the car for close to 20k, and they have quite a few genesis coupes on the lot. Good luck!

Thank you SOOO much for the detailed and helpful response (aside from trying to convince me to get a d*** Ford...)! So I went to Arapahoe Hyundai today to wait for traffic on I-25 to die down, and they have a GORGEOUS yellow 3.8 Track M/T. Test drove it and I gotta say, I'm gonna miss my supercharged Tib! The Gen seemed to match it on low end torque, but then for some reason seemed to fall of at 3.5k rpms! I've never seen a car, especially N/A, LOSE torque higher in its power band... Don't get me wrong, I still want it like a baby wants the tit, but I'm already in talks with Jattus about prototyping a twin turbo kit on it to help me not need rehab for high end torque withdrawal.
My question about is it worth it to get the upgraded models I guess was vague since I didn't really specify what I want... You're right, I LOVE going fast in a straight line. But being a long time Camaro driver before my Tiburon, I am REALLY missing RWD. I want a car that I could have as much fun at high plains raceway, or an autocross or drift event, as I do at Bandimere. So basically my question is, are the Brembo brakes and upgraded suspension in the track worth it, when I am a modder anyway. Am I just gonna end up getting coilovers and new drilled and slotted brakes anyway and waste the extra money on the track package, or is it a keeper? I did test drive the car, but Arapahoe road is hardly the Nurburgring when it comes to testing performance ya know? lol So thanks for your help so far and I hope you might have further input knowing now more about what I'm looking for. Great handling from right off the lot so all I have to upgrade is power basically. THANKS!

Thank god! Now I can post this!

Ok can anybody clarify this for me? Is this Greddy's SE exhaust? Is it axle back? True dual all the way back? I love the Ti burnt look but I'm looking for true dual exhaust so any help is appreciated! From searching on this site it looks like I might have to piece together my own kit from different vendors to get headers, true dual setup, and burnt quad tips, is that right? Maybe ARK headers and downpipes and then a catback dual setup? Any suggestions? Thanks again CO Gen Coupes!

#22 ·
Naturally aspirated and down pipe??? Think you're mixing up terminology. Anyway, there are a couple true duals out there for the V6, including ark. None for the 4 cylinder- naturally.

I'll answer this: Are the brembos worth it? Yes. Very Yes. I auto-x my car and never experience brake fade. Even when a friend and I raced together and were having to swap drivers every 10 minutes or so, the brakes felt as strong on the last run as the first. He complained the pads don't have much bite, but I love the fact the brakes can be very well modulated as a daily driver.

The suspension is great, and you're forgetting one BIG item that the track has compared to the base. Limited slip differential. I don't think you're going to piece together a set of wheels and tires, brakes, springs, struts, swaybars, strut bar, and limited slip differential that work as well together as these do for the price of adding these to the car by going track/r-spec.

And EVERY car loses torque as you go up in RPM. Torque is made at lower RPM's and horsepower is made at higher RPM's. Because horsepower is calculated at an inverse proportion to torque. It can't exist both ways.

If you can't afford the V6 track, and were looking at the base, how are you affording this prototype twin turbo kit? If you were to grab a 2.0 track you could match the engine performance of the V6 for less than going to a V6 track. Alot of people on here say buy the V6 if you're content with the engine power and don't plan to mod much. A big reason being aftermarket support, the 2.0 is considered the "tuner engine" and is getting almost all the attention. It can also handle between 400 and 500hp on stock internals (yay evo motor!)

I would drive some of the twisty roads that are behind the dealership, get a feel for the handling there. The V6 is slightly heavier than the 4, and some say the suspension was balanced for the 4, and they did not adjust for the V6. This plus our altitude was a huge contributor to my turbo decision. I wanted a dicey auto-x car that could actually breathe.

The other thing to look at with V6 power adders is you have to get into the motor far sooner than the 4 cylinder, and bye bye any chance of warranty claims then. Bolt ons would be full exhaust and headers, intake, and reflash/piggy back ECU. Next would be going into the motor, modifying compression, cams, boring it out, etc... Not sure how strong the internals are, but if you wanted to add boost, it's a question again of what the stock compression ratios are. With the turbo bolt ons are intake, exhaust, downpipe, bigger turbo, injectors, intercooler, intercooler piping, reflash/piggyback. Bolt on : Bolt on, I think you make more power turbo route (not by much, maybe 30-40hp) but you are lighter and out about the same amount of money when it's all added up.

Oh speaking of power dropping off. I test drove the car and never took it above 5k RPM's, and only did that twice. I was super impressed with power delivery, but as it turns out, the turbo's lose power starting around 5500 rpm. A reflash can take car of this, and I believe hyundai detuned power out of both motors to encourage early shifting for less wear on their warranty'ed motors.

Anyway, like I said your decision, but I would look at your end goals and determine which platform will satisfy you immediately, and which one will make you want to mod it the first week because it doesn't feel right.

Yeah I didn't mean downpipe... I guess test pipe although I always thought those were replacement pipes for cats. Whatever the pipes that go from headers to cats; extension pipes maybe?

Anyway enough semantics lol Yeah you're really making the 4 cyl sound extremely good right now. I am still leaning toward the V6 track though for some reason. And as for twin turboing, that definately would not be for a long while. I would like to see more people boosting with the procharger that one of the vendors here is about to put out so I can see what people are doing on the stock V6 lower. That's what I did before I boosted my Tiburon... learned from other people's mistakes. I'm really not even sure if I'm going to end up going that route at all now. I really like going fast just as much as the next guy, but piggyback tuning is a nightmare. I was under the impression that the open ECU on the Gen was so great for tuning and then reading threads on here it seems like the Delphi ECU on the V6s is virtually unbreakable while the Siemens ECU on the 2.0s can be cracked easily. I think I'll just get the track and some non warranty killing mods like exhuast and intake and coilovers. I think I'll wait for a reflash until someone produces a handheld reflash and I can do it myself. I'm sure SFR and Power Axel are great, but I just don't trust getting a reflash from someone at sea level or similar altitude lol. They have no idea how crippling our air is up here and I don't need my N/A GenCoupe running pig rich, especially since I will be going from 1.99/gal E85 to 2.60/gal gasoline lol

Alright I went to USAA and they have a car buying service where they can get about 4 grand off the MSRP so on Monday you will all find out if I'm the proud new owner of a Genesis Coupe, or just another supercharged Tibby ricer... :/ lol

Ok, Tallie another one up for Colorado - ME.

South East Denver, RIGHT by the Centennial airport.

Couple of questions now - I know this is a long thread already but...

1) Anyone found a good tuner shop that WANTS to tune our Gen coupes here?
2) Anyone found access to any good Dyno's?
3) Has/Have/Do any driving groups been created to look for discounts on track runs n' such for us here in Colorado?

#28 ·
1.) I mostly try to stay AWAY from tuner shops... If you need help doing something, we can schedule a day in my Dad's garage with infinite tools and invite some people over with enough knowledge to do anything you need done. And I'll invite over the high school kids that are always looking to turn a wrench on any car...
2.) Harvey (The Boost Creep Ltd.) up in Longmont has the best dyno I've ever seen. All the HAP Evo guys recommend him and although I don't approve of his business ethics, he is a cool guy and his dyno is amazing. I don't remember what make it is, but it's a great loaded AWD dyno.
3.) My buddy was telling me about a track that may have recently opened out east somwehere (NOT Second Creek) where you could run for $50/day. We get enough guys together and I'll look more into that to see if it's rentable or else what the standard $50 includes...

Haven't done Bandimere yet. My 3.8 just has a K&N as its only mod so far, and found out the top speed governor works on a two lane road in South Dakota two weeks ago. If the governor was set higher, this car can handle it!!!

Are there any Colorado owners interested in forming a club for touring and enjoying our Coupes as a group? Maybe a meet and greet somewhere? There is the Wild West Car Show at Summerset Festival in Littleton in a couple weeks.

Where in Aurora are you? I live right near Grandview HS on Arapahoe. Of course I'm interested in forming a club or group! Text me 303 408 1587 - Joe Oh by the way I'm 24 but most of the people/friends in my current group are about 18 (most older folks that can afford it don't usually opt for Hyundai for some reason). It only sucks because they never have any money to do much and for events that you have to be 18+ half of them can't do and 21+ I'm definately on my own except my buddy with an 07 Tiburon is 23.

I'm down for anything! Only question is, will I still be driving my Tib to this event, or will I be rolling a brand new 3.8 Track w/ Nav...?
