It's time to replace my tires after a little over five years and 22000 miles. I'd like to go wider, and after searching the forum, I'm seeing the widest most recommend on the OEM 18" is 235/255. Does that sound accurate? Will there be a large difference between a 40 and 45 aspect ratio? Will going with larger than factory (225/245) negatively affect the car?
I looked and looked into this, and the worst problem I had was finding the right tire. Some tires just don't exist in some sizes. If you're wanting wider, go with new wheels. Else, stick with factory 225/245. A 255/40 is a 17mm shorter than stock (rears) and only adds 10mm. Bump to a 255/45 and you are now 9mm taller. I don't know if this will affect ABS/TC/SC or not.
The tire shop incorrectly installed 245s on my front in place of the 225s. Car didn't feel right to me for the month I drove it before I realized their mistake. But they fit on the rim. YMMV.
