"Usually" with BB turbo's it's a good idea to run a restrictor. Journal bearing turbo's "usually" don't require a restrictor as they need more oil for the cooling/oiling of the bearing. Now, you may want to contact Tomei and ask if they have certain specificatiosn regarding oil pressure. Ask what psi the turbo's seals are rated at. Tomei customer service here in CA is top notch, it's literally like talking to your best friend. I'm sure they'll help you out.

Bamp, how did they define the surge line?

They gave you a compressor map? Taka says they don't have one, so how do you know they are extremely helpful in establishing the surge limit if there's no compressor map?!

If you don't have one then it's trial and error trying to find where the surge limit is... this is why I say "they" (compressor maps) are very helpful for establishing where your surge limit is.

This is the compressor map for my turbo:

Here's an example of what I am talking about with regard to how much pressure you can reasonably expect per a given flow rate to get out of a particular turbo using the compressor map as a guide:

Here I was thinking "they" was Tomei, not a compressor map LOL.

LOL... that's what you get when you dig up old conversations! Anyway... now that I remember... yeah... Tomei never came up with a compressor map for the M7960.... which makes configuration choices difficult because you really don't know where the surge line is for this turbo.

Totally agree @GenCoupeGeek . They have one for the M7960 however it's for a different application (EVO / STI )

Smdh ! ! !

well after much debate, I went ahead and installed my btr tomei m7960 kit.

its been on for just about 4k miles....
and like all the rest, I am just starting to get white smoke from my exhaust.
not a lot yet, and not all the time, but its has started smoking.

can anyone recommend the proper oil restrictor this turbo would need?
I thought I might start there and see if it alleviates some of the smoke, or even fixes the problem all together.

why does this happen with this kit? so freakin frustrating !!!!

also, I cant find any of my paper work for the turbo, do you think tomei would still warranty it?

Snappin Necks N Cashin Checks !!!! POW !!!

Dam . When I get back from Asia I'm having a local company inspect the turbo and move ahead based on their finding . You don't want to restrict oil flow to journal bearings BTW. Crankcase pressure is the culprit I'm sur . Feliz racing also has this turb . Maybe he has a work around

Tomei offers life time warranty. Whoever you bought it from have them contact Tomei. We've seen Tomei replacing the turbo without a question.

Sounds like oil seal problem but that's mostly due to the temperature of oil. Those who are running hardcore custom tunes on stock turbo or bigger turbos must run oil cooler set up in my opinion.
