I read these comments on youtube so I got a little worried. Is it safe to put an aftermarket BOV on a stock gen coupe?
"hmm BOV's not a good idea for turbo cars with stock boost unless u put insane boost and a bigger turbo.. if anyone wants the "WHOOSH" sound.. just put on an INTAKE and it'll significantly improve the sound of the stock BPV to sound almost like a BOV but to each is own!! still sounds good =) "
"its bad for the engine when ur turbo is so small =/ .... even stock subaru's wrx or sti barely holds a bov ... i think this engine stands no chance with the bov. Remove asap before it kils ur warranty!"
that's sad that people really think that..
i have heard that sti's do have trouble with aftermarket bov's before. but not our cars. almost everyone has the stock turbo and many have aftermarket bov's. and warranty depends on the dealer you take the car in for work.
I am under the impression that it actually can hurt Subaru's because they are MAF based while gen coupes are MAP based and it can't hurt our intake readings so it can't hurt our fuel mixture which equals bad for the engine.
It should not hurt anything to install on your Gen Coupe.
Vented Bov are not bad for Genesis engines because gen engines are not maf based. DSM/EVO (mitsubishi) and Subie are Maf based cars.
Explanation:
Maf sites right behind intake filter so all the air that enters the engine is measured at your intake. Your bov will sit in your intercooler piping by throttle body which is behind the maf. So the ECU has no way of knowing that air (boost) is leaving the intercooler pipes when the bov vents. This causes the car to run rich and in worse case scenarios backfire or stall out. Turbo cars run best with MAP/IAT setup a.k.a speed density because a MAP sensor sits BEHIND your bov thus will be able to recognize the bov venting and the ECU can see air (boost) leaving the intercooler pipes and adjust fuel accordingly.
No, it won't hurt anything. Yes, it will attract unwanted (or maybe wanted?) attention. And then when it comes time to put up or shut up, you've still got a stock 2.0.
I can back up the statement on the WRX with the BOV issue.. Had a GFB BOV on my 04 WRX and it ran like ****. Unless they get tuned it will stall and shudder it ass off... seems like the evo motor in these gene's does better with it
Makes sense thanks for the input the genisis is the first turbo car so kind of a new world to me. didnt really know what the blowoff valve did for sure.
