How catch PowerSteering Fluid Flush?

Hi guys,

I am flushing my daily driver 2010 2.0t at 45k miles because their is a whine while idle/load and a fast paced click sound on a pulley at cold start. I've researched that to flush the PS fluid resevoir, I pull the bottom tube off the resevoir and catch the emptying fluid.

WTF do I catch this with? Theres no space to fit anything that will fit 1L+

Whatd you guys use?

There are some videos on Youtube which may help. You can remove a bulk of the fluid with a turkey baster. Underneath, pull a line with the car up and drain the rest by moving the steering wheel back and forth. Some people start their engine and use the pump. A pump without fluid...not good IMHO. I think a few people have replaced their fluid on this forum so search around here first as I recall a posting or two on how it was done. It might save you both time and money. If you can get 90% of the fluid out using an easy method outline on here that should be fine.

If you get to the cooler from underneath you can easily disconnect a hose and all the fluid will drain out gravity wise.

I would change the belt first since in your signature, it states you have a 2010.

it's about due for a belt change.

check to see if there are cracks or oil spots on the belt when you take it off first before you go out to buy a belt.

+1

I change my serpentine belts every 60k miles on all my cars. It is like an oil change; cheap insurance. On this car it takes like 10 minutes or less. If your serpentine belt goes you lose everything...as in the water pump too.
