Same Engine as Evo? just slower?

People have been telling me that the gencoupe has the same engine as the Evo, but when you look at the specs, the Evo is much more powerful. Can someone explain this to me?

It's definitely not the same engine, the design is similar though.

Evo X = 4B11T motor w/TD05 hybrid twin scroll turbo

Genesis 2.0T = Theta II motor w/ little teeny KO3 sorta little turbo.

Hyundai and Mitsu share a TON of motor and drivetrain components, they have for a while now.

The Theta II block is essentially the Lancer Ralliart block, but its not much like the 4B11T despite the fact that one company on here actually sells 4b11t cams and claims they are "made" for the Genesis.

oh ok. that makes sense then. Well any idea what the least expensive way to make it as fast would be?

least expensive would be one of the Evo turbo (how ironic...) swap kits, Elite Autosports, STRK, Synapse Engineering and I wanna say one other company make Evo 8/9 and 10 swap kits. I have a X MR turbo on mine but it's not finished tuning, best yet was a car running a stock Evo 9 turbo making 336whp.

The idea being those turbos are dirt cheap and spool quickly, but also allow for a large range of stock frame upgrades once you bolt up the adapter manifold to the Genesis.

A bone-stock hardware Genesis with an intake/FMIC/BOV/flash tune will lay dowm 270whp/310wtq at the very most with a GOOD tune, which is not bad for a car that rolls in at 189whp stock.

The Evo block is semi closed. The theta block is open.

And NO, the evo block won't just drop into the genesis, if the OP is wondering that.

did someone actually invest in those cams to see if they actually fit?

And I wouldn't call the 2.0T a Theta II motor either.
It doesn't have a lot of the Theta II gear but has more stuff than a Theta I, like oil injectors and the layout of certain things are for longitudal mount rather than transverse, which is one of the main reasons the 4B11T won't go in if I understand what that one company was trying to do.

I don't think anyone has tried those cams yet.

AKGC,

I'm not arguing what Hyundai calls it, I'm just stating it doesn't have everything that the Sonata ThetaII has or that it even has the same parts.

The block might be the same but the intake manifold isn't, the exhaust manifold isn't, it's fuel delivery system isn't the same.. lots is different.

All the parts stated would be different anyways except the DI. Those parts would be different just because of the fact that its FWD, the exhaust and the intake at directed at/from the crank pulley side of the engine.

Just about all the auto manufactures do the same thing comparing the "same" engines between the rwd/fwd orientated variants.
GM did/does it with their northstar v8s, their v6s. Nissan does/did it with their SRs, VQs. Fords does it too.

the sonata motor (2.0t gdi)Theta III vs the Theta II non gdi motor is a no comparo.

again....Hyundai Mitsu and Chyrsler all had their hands in the "World Motors" this is why they are similar. Hyundai actually designed the bottom half, but then mitsu changed it up for the evo...different rods, pistons ect. its about 90 percent different then the Theta II. They then slapped their own head on the motor and called it a day.

hyundai and chyrsler did the same. Hyundai put on their dual cvvt head and chyrsler did what ever they have.

they are cousins, but not directly related motors.

just trolling till i get my 14 2.0t rspec.

yeah uh guys, you all totally glossed over the part where I said

THE THETA II MOTOR IS THE LANCER RALLIART MOTOR BASICALLY BOLT FOR BOLT, NOT THE EVO.

And it IS referred to as the Theta II, per the Hyundai shop manual I have.

Nope. I know they have a pinout on HMA. I remember seeing it when I was looking for the primary o2 pinout.
