Default Lifter Tick?

Hi, I was wondering if anyone else is having this problem? I believe it's a lifter tick but not 100% sure.

Could be...or it could be the clutch. Sure would be nice to see something in that video.

you hear the sound better from the front wheel wells than from the top of the engine if that helps, i've talked to several genesis owners who have the same sound. is it just normal and i'm overreacting?

You drive a manual? Then it's fine. Mines does it from time to time as well. It's just the clutch.

I hear something like that. Very similar to what I hear on my friend's miata. Specifically when I'm close to the interval for an oil change.

Sound comes from near the head than the clutch.

Thats not normal in anyway.
That deffinetly sounds like top end. I would take the vavle cover off and peak around if i were you, that has to be valve/lifter/rocker noise.
Even low on oil wouldnt make that noise, it would make a similer noise, but you can distinguish thats one valve/lifer/rocker.
whoever has a clutch thats making that noise, not normal either, no stock clutch makes that noise, even after market clutch w/ chatter doesnt sound like that.

I've always thought it was normal. I hear it on mine and all other local 2.0's in my area.

Do you have an OEM oil filter? Is the PS fluid full?

I have to agree with gentech.

that slow repeating sound means its coming from the top end and wouldn't be from the flywheel, because that sound would would be faster.

cams move at half the speed of the crank, flywheel moves same speed of the crank.

OP can pop off the valve cover and poke around, but I would take it to the dealer if still under warranty.

Never mind, read mod list lol

Bust out the torque wrench and make sure everything is tighten everything to spec.

Tightening torque
Step 1
M6 : 5.9N.m( 0.6kgf.m, 4.3lb-ft)
M8 : 14.7N.m( 1.5kgf.m, 10.8lb-ft)
Step 2
M6 : 10.8 ~ 12.7N.m(1.1 ~ 1.3kgf.m, 7.9 ~ 9.4lb-ft)
M8 : 27.5 ~ 31.4N.m(2.8 ~ 3.2kgf.m, 20.3 ~ 23.1lb-ft)

I agree with GenTech. It's definitely not the lifters. They make a little ticking noise. Nor the clutch or flywheel. The only noise I have heard from the tranny is the low rpm cruise around flywheel rattle and the rubbing noise it makes when parked and the noise goes away when the clutch is pressed in.

It is normal - in that every 2.0T makes the same noise.

It's def where you are saying its coming from, but I don't know if it's a good idea to just go around with a torque wrench tightening things. Agree should take it to the dealer or a proper shop.

The only tick you can hear, is fuel injectors, and its a small quiet tick, and that noise he's having is NOT a small noise. Therefore, not normal. If you can't distinguish between lifter tick or fuel injectors, don't do any of your own work.

The clutch thing was normal in 3G Eclipses. It was downright normal. And on these cars...its not out of the normal.

Oh I'm sorry, I wasn't aware this was a forum for Eclipses, I retract my statements.
No no wait.. I don't. Bud, listen, if your not going to be useful, stay off the thread. There are far to many people out there that are being misled because of mis diagnosis due to people like you saying "its normal on other car brands". And again, I'm sorry, but that noise, isn't normal on any modern car.

Actually watch the video. it's not normal.

and I said to go over the cams with a torque wrench because a cap could of loosened or whoever put it together could of torqued everything in the wrong pattern.

if it's still happening after that, then take it to a mechanic.

Eat a d***. I'm not your bud. It's normal and not out of the ordinary. Maybe you should learn why instead of claiming that I'm wrong. There's a reason it rattles. I asked for a video with picture to possibly SEE where the sound was coming from. My clutch rattles a bit...then I depress the clutch and the rattle goes away. It's always done that, just like others cars have.

And the reason I brought up the 3G was because I did have lifter tick with it, AND my clutch rattled. My experience may not be on this platform, but I have experience with both conditions nonetheless.
