UPDATE: Since last Fall when the weather got cool, the fuel pump has NOT made any more noise. Today is 1/6/13. This is the original pump that WAS making noise, I have not had it repaired or replaced. The noise just stopped when the weather cooled. Just for your info.
Will update you again in the Spring when it gets warm again. |

If I had to guess I would say that the fuel flow is now restricted causing the loss in power, the RPM's to nearly redline under acceleration, the LOSS of turbo lag, and the electric sound of the fuel pump not being drowned out by the turbo charger. My car goes back in the shop next week.

Wow, that almost sounds like they installed the wrong pump and it's not pumping enough gas to keep up with the demands of the turbo. Better have them double check the numbers on that replacement pump. |

So far my first experience with Hyundai is a lousy one. I normally keep my cars for a long time, but I'm seriously considering selling this car after less than a year of ownership. If I'm having these problems (and some others I have not posted about) in the first year I can't imagine what I'll be seeing in the next few years. It may be a nice looking car, but the build quality is poor.

My fuel pump has been quiet since they replaced the whole housing... My car is NOW getting a new TURBO!! Has anyone else had their fuel pump replaced then have their turbo replaced?
The engineer was at the dealership for another "catastrophe" car (FYI another '13 2.0T Genesis was parked in their service bay). I didn't get the entire story but what was originally thought to be the power steering pump has now turned into the turbo being replaced. I love the car, but this is getting old real fast.

I don't know about anyone else, but I could feather the throttle to avoid the big turbo lag and still accelerate when pulling out in traffic. But with what the car is doing now its a crap shoot as to whether or not it accelerates normally or spins up to 7500 RPM with little or no acceleration. That scare the bejeebers out of me when that happens when I pull out in traffic. One of these days someone is going to run me over. Another thing I complained about was the soot buildup and the fact that the exhaust smells like a diesel vehicle. Personally, I think that the air/fuel mix is off. My dealer's responses to all of this: "Why are you complaining about no longer having turbo lag?" "The lack of horsepower is due to the winter fuel mixture." - FWIW, I thought that because of the increased ethanol in the summer blend and the lower burn rate of ethanol that I would lose HP in the summer. Plus, I live in the south and we don't have that heavy winter blend. "The software that controls the transmission and shift points is adaptive and will change based upon your driving style. That's why you now hit 7500 RPM when you barely hit 6200 before." - Again, I have the 8 speed automatic. "You've grown accustomed to the car and that's why it feels different now." - I disagree, there's a big difference between hitting the throttle and getting thrown back in the seat and what I feel under acceleration now. I'm no car expert, I can only go by what I see and feel. The fact is the car does not have the power it had before. Overall, I'm disappointed with this dealer and this car. When I went to my dealer I put everything in writing so they could show it to the mechanic instead of passing along what I said to the service manager. I'm really interested in any feedback that anyone has or similar experiences and outcomes with their car.

I have the automatic too... I notice that the first few minutes after being started, the turbo didn't want to spool. That was only until it got warmed up, then it felt like the same power.
Winter fuel? I'm in south Florida and it's "winter" at 70*. I'm putting premium in it and the black soot has been there since I bought it. I hate it. My brother followed me one day and said when I hit the gas, the amount of black smoke that comes out makes it look like I'm driving a diesel! I haven't complained about that yet. I have noticed lately that it takes longer to start up after pressing the button. It went away for 2 weeks after the fuel pump had been replaced each time (it's been replaced twice). I'm on rental number 5!

I have not experienced the issue with the starter. But I am starting to experience a bit of an air breach in the drivers side window seal and an annoying rattle that I haven't tracked down yet.

UPDATE: As I said previously, since last Fall when the weather temp got below 80 degrees, the fuel pump has NOT made any more noise. It has never been replaced. Figure that out. ??????
But I CAN tell you that the statement, "The lack of horsepower is due to the Winter Fuel mixture." is a bunch of crap. My car is running just FINE and it seems like I get MORE horse power on "Winter Fuel", and the weather temp here today is 6 below zero. Last edited by RealtorBob; 01-24-2013 at 03:36 AM. |

Black smoke and a buildup of soot is an indication that your engine is running too rich, more gas is going into the engine than it requires. Unburned gasoline causes soot in the tailpipe, will carbon up your engine, valves, etc, eventually if not corrected. Last edited by RealtorBob; 01-24-2013 at 03:50 AM. |

Oooook.... New turbo didn't change the noise. It DID give me much more power, even the service advisor had to agree it was MUCH more responsive. They replaced it bc there was oil all over it, the head tech said.
They are ordering 3 pullys to replace in the car. Next, if that doesn't fix it, they will replace the alternater. After that, I'm not sure what part they will pick!? The fuel pump has been fine, for now... It's been close to 90 degrees some days this "winter" in S. Florida.

Well, They replaced the idler pully and I am told (I have not driven my car in almost 2 weeks) that changed my noise and now they mention it could be the transmission! Engineer will be out next week to look at the car again.

I just noticed yesterday while starting off in "Drive" mode that the transmision would not shift from 2nd to 3rd. I placed it in "Manual" mode and then back into Drive Mode and it shifted. I hope that's not a sign of things to come.

Mine did the same thing yesterday right after I installed my cbe. I thought it was something I might have done, but I guess not. The turbo dumps boost between 7-10 psi, but not consistently. I guess I'll wait for the wine to start again and bring it to the dealership.

Engineer came out yesterday and only drove the car for about 10 minutes (I know b/c I have the speed alert on BlueLink set to text message me at 20mph). After some "discussion" with the service manager, the truth that was told was that they just tightened the idler pully and it was gone my lovely Prius/power steering sounding noise... But it really wasn't.
After driving 4 new cars off the lot, the dealership is trying to say it's "normal" even though the new cars don't have the noise. It's getting more and more insulting each time they make me drive a brand new car. I guess I should have expected this, but the manager (and only the manager) is now treating me like the stereotypical woman. I must say that Hyundai Corporate has been extremely nice and understanding. Am I the only one that has had 2 fuel pumps, an internal leak in the turbo, and the idler pully that was loose??? And still a power steering noise when accelerating??

We have had a bad idler pulley in our Hyundai entourage and in our Veracruz it seems to be a Hyundai thing. I've had four fuel pumps the latest is a new design. I hasn't had any problems with the new one. My paints fading on the bumpers and side skirts. My transmission is acting up now in fifth and third. **** i go to the dealer for everything and when they act like I'm stupid i call Hyundai motor america. Then i get **** for free and my car fixed.

The idler pulley makes a funny noise that speeds up as you accelerate. Its really obnoxious and people stare at you.
