Default History of Hyundai

Hyundai has grown to be one of the world’s largest automobile manufacturers over the past 25 years. Started by Chung Ju-Yung in 1947 initially as an engineering company, they company’s motor division was founded 20 years later in 1967. In 1986, Hyundai began selling cars in the United States, notably by offering their models for significantly low prices. Since then, Hyundai has expanded to be a global automotive power featuring reliable and innovative automobiles with outstanding warranties. Hyundai is based out of Seoul, South Korea and has been the fastest growing car company for two years in a row, according to Digital Journal.

Hyundai’s rise to prominence began in 1986, when the company brought the compact Excel to the automotive market. This came at a crucial time, as automakers tended to be less concerned with entry level vehicles, in favor of higher-end and higher-priced cars and trucks, according to Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama. Hyundai took advantage of this gap by offering the inexpensive Excel, leading to approximately 168,000 cars being sold that year. This accomplishment set an industry record for an import car distributor in its first year. In 1988, the company brought the Sonata, a four door sedan, to market. Though initial sales were good, sales began to fall due to increased competition in the foreign automotive market.

11 years later, Hyundai revived itself with an ambitious overhaul of the company. In 1999, after the transfer of power from father Chung Ju Yung to son Chung Mong Koo, the company focused on manufacturing cars with better quality, according to Bloomberg BusinessWeek. With an expanded line of vehicles, Hyundai began to concentrate on quality and design, along with offering a comprehensive 10 year/100,000 mile warranty for its cars.

In 2011, with a full lineup of compact, midsized, and large automobiles, Hyundai has blossomed into an automotive global power. The value of the automobile manufacturer has grown from $3.5 billion in 2005, to $6 billion in 2011, according to Digital Journal. The easiest way to identify the company’s profitable expansion is to observe the Hyundai Genesis and Genesis coupe. In 2009, the Hyundai Genesis was named the North American Car of the Year at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, according to The North American Car and Truck Award of the Year Awards. It also received a J.D. Power and Associates award amongst many others that year. Hyundai’s entry into the luxury segment announced its eagerness for growth and expansion, as the company offers compact, midsized, large coupes and sedans, along with SUVs and Crossovers. Expect more quality automobiles from a company with ever-growing global power.

If you are considering buying a Hyundai Genesis, Genesis Coupe, or any other model, make sure to research the price of your auto coverage. You can compare multiple auto insurance quotes online so that you’re ensuring the best price of your auto insurance needs.

Where'd you get this from? A Hyundai marketing promo?

The Excel fail is what tarnished Hyundai's reputation and the reason it had to be revived in the first place. Throw away cars... kinda like one-time use phones

btw, to add to this, the Elantra was the #2 car sold in the world in 2011, just 10,000 units behind the Corolla.

there is a lot of Hyundai history missing from this post.

Hyundai was building fords before they built anything of their own.

The funny part about the company's reputation is that all the early oil burning/poor reliability models were powered by Mitsubishi engines.

The Pony and the Stellar were popular in Canada(they were cheap). Hyundai even had a plant in Bromont Quebec.

I've had an AOD, a T-5(4cyl and 8cyl version), an a4ld and the AODE ford transmissions. The AOD for 98k miles, the t-5 for 10k and 12k respectively, the a4ld for about 5,000 miles and the AODE for about 25,000 miles.

Only had a problem with the a4ld.

I have many problems with the 6 m/t in my GC.

But I see the point you're making. It's not just Hyundai building shi* cars, is all auto manufactures.
