Sorry if this is a sticky, but I am having a nightmare on mobile right now. What kind of synthetic motor oil do you guys use for a 2010 and how often do you replace it and the filter? Thank you for any kind responses. Just bought my car 3 days ago from a Subaru so they did not have all the info for me. P.s. I drive about 15k a year and dont really beat on it (I shift at about 3000rpm)

You'll get a lot of different answers on this topic, on an enthusiast forum oil becomes a highly debated topic. The easiest thing to do is to stick to the recommended 5W-30 from a quality brand, I'd recommend Pennzoil Pure Platinum because of its current reputation, the OEM filter, and change it every 5,000-7,500 miles per the factory maintenance recommendations.

If you want to get more into the weeds you can do some searches and read the countless other oil threads already here. You'll find people running everything from 0W-20 to 5W-40 oil in these cars from every brand you can think of and changing it from anywhere between 3,000-10,000 miles, one consistent thing is almost everyone uses the OEM filter.

I used synthetic in my 2011. Changed it every 5000 miles. Never had any problems, and it was running like a scalded dog when I sold it at 110K

That's the 2.0T schedule, 3.8 is longer (3,750 severe, 5,000-7,500 normal).

For the 3.8 the manual specs anything from a 5w20 to a 5w40 for "performance" driving or some sort of verbage like that. If all else fails, just follow the manual. However I can tell you that I have a 2010 3.8 with around 155,000 miles on it currently that I have put most of the miles on, with 6,500-11,000 mile oil change intervals (depending on which oil I'm trying out) and all of the lab analysis reports have come back fine. Unlike others, I actually decide to back up my methods with data rather than speculation. I use 5w20 because and an OEM filter. Every time my engine is warmed up it sees at or near the redline. It sees hot Texas summers and has seen some cold winters in the same oil change interval. It sees miles of extended moderate-high loads at moderate RPM's (100+mph @ ~4,000rpm) on toll roads for hundreds of miles every month.

So there's really no need in the 3.8 for anything beyond a 5w20 with an OEM filter unless you are frequently tracking your car. I would personally do 5-7k oil change intervals with regular oil and up to 10k with synthetic, farther if you have lab results to make sure everything is fine. I am currently running Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5w20 with an OEM filter and will be sampling around 10-11k. I personally like the Castrol Edge Extended performance best but I got some discount Mobil 1 so I'm cool with that. My next oil change interval I will be trying a Fram Ultra filter to see if I can lower the insoluble material count in my oil and maybe see if any wear numbers correlate. I know there is a TSB about using non-OEM filters and startup noise, so I will have an OEM filter on standby to swap out if that happens even once, but the filtration efficiency of the Fram Ultra vs the OEM filter looks better.

See my above post. I've done 11k, currently averaging 9-10k with no problems and have data to back that up.

I'd stick with OEM filters; they work great and they're cheap off ebay ($20-25 for a pack of 5)

It did look quite tall when I got it. I only ordered it because I saw some people comment that it actually fit theirs. Might have to get an OEM filter and go into Walmart to see which Ultra fits in a side by side comparison.

Nope! I put about 20K/year on my GC I could probably go closer to 7500 miles (maybe more according to the stats listed above) using synthetic, but 5K is a nice round number, easy to remember, and if I get too busy and forget, I'm still good for another 2.5K before the next change Texas weather can be harsh on engines

As long as everything is in working order it's not too bad. Little dusty in some areas, but I believe the cold is actually rougher on oil.

I live in alaska and use to work above the arctic circle.... you don't know harsh weather. In Fairbanks, it regularly gets -30*f ~ -40*f

I would stick with the recommended oil viscosity for sure i like using Mobil One or Castrol oils, I buy my filters for $4.79 and their O.E. Hyundai filters https://www.hyundaipartsdeal.com/gen...nt-case,,26300

Tornados- no
floods - yes
hurricanes - pretty much the whole west coast of the state
-65*f windchill - yes

you get landslides large enough to remove roads and access to certain parts of the state, wildfires that burn a 1/16 of the state ?(keep in mind land mass-wise, alaska is about 1/3 the size of the rest of the US)
