I ran in Waterloo IA today. Surface is relatively new (3-4) year old, 9" concrete. Not real grippy for concrete but very nice moderate sized completely open lot. Nice people...enjoyable day except for the 50mph wind gusts!

I mis-managed my fuel and showed up with just over a 1/2 tank. Car pushed a bit much for my liking. Times were good though.

Weekend Runs...both days on Hoosier R6 (yes, R6 not A6, as a tire cost saving measure)

Saturday :

American Autocross Series 2012 Round 5, Ed Runnion, DS 34, Run7, 52.9, 2012 Hyundai Genesis Coupe - YouTube

Sunday :

American AutoX Series Rd 6, Ed Runnion, DS 34, 2012 Hyundai Genesis Coupe, Run4, 56.041 - YouTube

There are a pair of events up in Sacramento this weekend, but I'm likely taking this weekend off from racing (but not from tow vehicle prep and minor car prep) since San Diego is coming up soon

I don't think it has been classified yet. While you can certainly run it in modified, it's probably not legal for any stock class.

Awesome, this is my next project though I'm trying to be lazy and see if RMR wants to sell them.

It's actually not that uncommon. I had it so badly in my 99 Miata that I eventually did the swap to a manual rack which was an option that year. My C5Z06 had it but bleeding/better fluid fixed it. Last night I swapped out .5 qt of fluid with Redline power steering fluid and I had replaced .3-4qts on Saturday night. The fluid is looking much less murky already. I'll probably wait another day or two of commuting and then do the swap again. I'll be able to test it on Saturday when I teach another autox school and plan to use my car for ride-alongs. I think it will be better, just never entirely go away.

I'm having this very same issue in slolems. Did changing the PS fluid help at all? Thanks.

Incidentally, I couldn't get the OE endlinks to match up to the 'inner', 'most stiff' mounting holes. They are too long.

Another thing to note is that the holes are not layed out in a line perpendicular to the ground/motion plane. The change in stiffness comes from changing the length of the lever arm. At the ~45 degree angle that it mounts, the difference in lever arm is really just distance/sqrt(2).

I had no problems w/ fitment and have swapped the stiffness 2x already at both ends. You need to get the car up but keep the wheel loaded. So use ramps if possible.

As for settings, full stiff was just terrible in my car in the rear but great in the front.

If I was running less grippy tires I can only assume I'd run full soft all around.

That's good info. I didn't really try that hard I'll try again next time I have my car on a lift rather that on my back in the garage. Thanks!

Got the bar last Friday. Not on the car yet, but in the truck as an "option" for San Diego. We'll see if there is time to experiment on the Test-n-Tune course.

Correct, not classed yet.

FWIW, I think the 2013 2.0T should goto DS (gives up a little power, but SHOULD be a little lighter, compared to a 2012 R-Spec V6) and the 2013 3.8 should goto FS. I have made that opinion known to some folks who influence where things end up

On another note, I should be able to (finally) get the car on the scales at San Diego National Tour tech to see what the "race weight" is at.

ROUGH guess is 3389 - 80 (fuel at 3-4 gallons in tank) - 40 (wheels/tires vs stock) - 40 (spares + tools) - 5 (exhaust) + 5 (aftermarket HIDs, aftermarket tablet in dash) = 3230.

We'll see how close that ends up being

While I'm at it, a generic Hoosiers question.

This is my first set of "sticker" A6 Hoosiers. And I've been on street tires for years and years now

How much should we run them at the Test-n-Tune (0 runs, 1-2 runs, more...doubtful I would think) to get the mold release compound off of them?

Obviously want to remove that, but NOT start biting into the "fastest" runs on the tires

You really just want to scuff them enough to get the shininess off. I would probably do one run on the Test-n-Tune at moderate speeds. That should scuff them without getting into the good stuff.

Thanks!

Almost forgot, on the weight thing I removed (for the week) my CPE front plate bracket that puts the CA required plate in a nice angled bracket that installs in the tow hook receptacle. Looks tons better than the cheesy Hyundai bracket.

I had noticed when installing it that it had some, umm, "heft".

Specifically after weighing it tonight, roughly 3.5 lbs of heft. Pretty much as far forward as you can get it

I'll reinstall it next week, likely back out again for Nationals though

+1. I've never found that any wear or heat cycles made the A6 better.

donour

EDIT: for reference this was my same impression ofthe dunlop z1, while I like the AD07, RS-3, and RE11 after a thorough heat cycle.

Sticker A6s IMO are faster than 1 event A6s. V710s were the ones that did like one set of heat cycle before use.

Spent the weekend at the TX Pro. IMO its not looking good for the GC in D Stock, the 2011+ WRX with 295s all around was very impressive. Lincoln should be very interesting in September.

PS: Subaru not paying contingency for Road Tire class sucks, we could have made back some of our expenses.

Nice driving Tom!

Agree that it'll be tough for the GC in DS, but I knew that going in. And of course if it rains, forget it

BTW, had the ECU set a code and the car go into limp over lunch hour today. Looks like it is a known issue (i.e. it popped these exact codes) with a TSB out as of a few weeks ago. I'll see if I can get the car in for it next week. Fortunately it "reset" with a code clear and restart. Let's just hope it doesn't happen on course (knocking furiously on one large-ass piece of wood about right now )

ECM Update for 3.8's

Nice job at the Pro Tom! 295's on an 8" rim? Is that only the A6's or street tires too?

Thanks guys. Considering how stock that car was and on RS3s that didnt like the weight at all, we were thrilled to do well.

Yes that 295s on a 17x8. No way a street tire that wide would work or maybe even mount. I would say 265 is the max but more likely a 255 Star Spec would fit right if you agree with Andy Hollis' thoughts on street tire fitment vs race tires.

The 295 does surprise me a bit even with the A6...more so that it clears up front. Glad my sanity is not lost with regard to 295 streets on an 8" rim lol.
