Default DIY - Cabin Air Filter

For those of you who don't know how to change your cabin air filter and don't want to pay a dealership to have it done, here is some very simple and easy steps. Cabin Air Filters should be changed every 15k or year, sooner if you live in a really dusty environment.

Approx. time should be less than 5 mins.

Step 1:
Open glove box and empty its contents.

Step 2:
Look for the tabs on each side of the glove box.

Step 3:
Remove the tab by first sliding it down, then second sliding it out away from the side wall. If you have problems trying to slide it down you can kinda access the back side of the tab and wiggle/push it down to loosen it up.

Step4:
Remove the tab by pulling it away from the side. Now repeat Step 3 and 4 and do it for the other side.

Step 5:
Remove the lowering hydralic? (not sure on the name of it) from the glove box

Step 6:
Lower the glove box and let it rest so that you can see cabin air filter door

Step 7:
Pinch the clips on the left side to open the cabin air filter door and then swing it open and it should disconnect from the hinge.

Step 8:
Pull out old and dirty cabin air filter. Hint to know its dirty, the OEM ones are suppose to be white. LOL.

Step 9:
Open new cabin air filter and take notice of the arrow on the filter with the words "air flow" as you want to make sure its pointed in the same position as the old one (pointed down).

Step 10:
Place new cabin air filter into the slot and reverse the previous steps.

Pat yourself on the back.

Thanks! It's odorless so I don't smell anything. Lol. I did however used a sheet of bounce so I smell that.

Thanks for sharing! I'm definitely going to try this filter with a fabric sheet, looks like it will do a much better job then the OEM one.

Usually you change it around every 15k or every year depending on your road conditions. Also it doesn't help to take it out and take a look at it as well to see how dirty it has become.

You can get it online on like amazon or any auto retailer. Auto retailers are more expensive though. I bought mine at walmart for $20. Buy it online at walmart and have it shipped to the store for free, then pick it up.

Someone recently told me about this, and how FILTHY his filter was when he finally learned about it. Thanks for the DIY, need to get this done ASAP before mine looks like the birds nest that my buddy had going on in there.

Thanks for this - my wife has bad allergies and we always wondered why she seemed to get worse in my old car (Tiburon) turns out that the factory 'forgot' to put in a filter. I haven't checked the genesis yet, but I"m planning on replacing this filter every year (especially after spring pollen).

Thanks for the pictures! I already bought the filters but it's not time to switch it yet. Now I don't need to 'explore' on my own...
