To what degree is the problem? honestly im not really disappointed with the transmission, i dont have problems with it grinding getting into any gears. Of course when the transmission is cold i have to walk it into 2nd and 3rd and if im doing low rpm shifts, but anything above 3.5k rpm is like butter. My problem started recently, if im slowing down with the transmission in neutral and move the shifter to the left (between 1st and 2nd) i get a really noticeable rub/grind that can be felt and heard to a degree. this continues until the car slows to a stop. only happens when the transmission is nice and warmed up (doesn't happen all the time).

What have you done to try to get it fixed? well iv been looking through this thread for about a week reading all the posts and cant find any reference to my problem. however, when it gets warmer im gonna try switching to redline D4 ATF.

im just interested to know if any1 else has a problem similar to this and if they where able to fix it.

To what degree is the problem?

TOB squeals, rattles when engaged and in slow speeds. 1st and 2nd gears are very to get into when cold and can not be shifted fast (binds up). No problem with 5th gear.

Flushed trans fluid with redline fluid, made no difference. Am going to try for either replacement soon, and/ or bleeding the clutch.

Yes it would be. Does Canada have anything like the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration?

im going to be bringing the car in on Tuesday about the unusual vibration and rhythmic clacking sound i get from the transmission in the lower gears (mostly 2nd). I'm still unsure weather or not its the transmission or another part of the drive train. Hopefully they don't give me any hassle.

That has to be illegal. There is no way a "grinding" transmission can be "part of the car". It'd try a different dealer.

To what degree is the problem? -
Bought my GenCoupe 2.0t last july (2011), I put the first 40kms on it test driving it. Made it to 6000kms before 5th gear started to grind every once in a while. I talked to the dealership about it and was told to keep an eye on it and if it gets worse to bring it in. Well it didnt make it to worse, 3rd gear popped out on me once and ever since it has been grinding when engaged. This happens more so when the tranny warms up, but sometimes it doesnt matter. When I talked to the dealership they knew some had this problem but didnt have a solution as of Dec 2011, but we did agree that it was most likely the syncros and or the syncro-locks(little pieces of metal(nylon) that are supposed to eject the floating syncro cone off the shift ring). Fast forward tow months of waiting to find out what Hyundai is going to do about this problem, now they want to drop my tranny to take measurements and then decide on what to do about it.

So far all I have done is complain about it and had it inspected by Hyundai

The only thing I hate about my car is that it takes away valuable riding time from my sports bike.

To what degree- clunky pretty much in every gear besides 4th. 5th gear grinds at high rpm's.
Going to take it to the dealership, but after this thread I don't have high hopes at all.

Well lesson learned for me. I've been having problems with my 2011 since We rolled it off the lot in terms of the usual difficulty switching into 2nd and 3rd or back down to 1 when cold. Right from the start though I heard a low thud from the diff every time I shifted the low gears, didn't matter if it was at high or low rpm and it wasn't loud I could more feel it than hear it really right as I disengaged the clutch.

Had the car into service twice saying it just didn't feel right plus the usual shifting complaints. I was told that it was a cold problem and that the noise would go away once broken in. Unhappy witht he answer i made them note it on the service record both times. I'm happy I did because on a nice sunday ride today I pulled up to stop sign, took off gently in first gear and BANG goes the rear diff with a whole bunch of metallic crunchy horror.

It's completely toast and just got towed to the dealer. Of course they are closed today so I can't go raise hell until the morning. I've read about lots of tranny issues with the car but haven't seen anyone report this so far. Anyone else hear or experience this problem? I'm pretty sure now I got a bad diff from the get go and it made it 22k before it exploded.

THIS DOES INCLUDE CANADA as I am sure Mrs. Lenderman can relay the information for the community

Mods, if possible please sticky this for the time being to help HMA. Thanks.

Bill
this is my two cents:

Hyundai USA and Canada monitors the threads. And, from my experience in the corporate world they care about customer comment but in the perspective of minimizing their liability and exposure to warranty issues. If their warranty costs go through the roof they will try to find ways to NOT replace your transmission under warranty.

there are already 78 pages of comments with approximately 4 transmission issues per page, that is 312 issues from people on this forum that are reading this thread. With an estimate of 3000$ per repair charged back to HMA...

$1,000,000 dollars

I personally think that this is conservative......

All I want to say is that I hope that I am not right and that Hyundai will not try to minimize their losses at on the backs of their customers

Very difficult to shift into 1st and second gear on a cold day.

I am afraid to take the car to the dealership as my experiences have been horrible!!!!

The charge me when I brought the car in for passengers side airbag not working... they said it was my fault

Allways looking for an excuse to go driving! If you are up for it MSG me!

Snoopy, Any updates on that mysterious mix of transmission fluid you mentioned a few months ago. Hyundai was working on it and you tried it and seemed to think it was the best so far. I think you said it was a non synthetic or semi synthetic mix? Is this an update or improvement over the ATF Canadian dealers have been flushing and filling with?
