Automatic Transmission Fluid Flush

Well it's that time for my car to get that done, took it to dealer, and I think I heard a load of BS just now, but lets confirm with forum people.

I went in, guys priced me at $150, I was like cool. Get it done.

Get a call later, they guys says "Yeah we were about to work on it, but I realized the price I gave you was for regular fluid. This transmission takes "special" fluid. Which costs $80/quart. Oh and car takes 10quarts. So we can just drain 5/quarts for now as per manual. So total $400?"

Soo... obviously i just took my car back... but BS? Not BS?

the ZF transmissions do take a special synthetic blend...not bs...but 10 quarts? not sure about that...and why are you getting a flush? you shouldn't have to unless the oils bad

Yeah. I just looked it up.

the p/n for the 3.8 fluid is 00232-19015

its 76$ list.

Dunno why you want to do a flush on a sealed transmission though...

this might be another BS from dealer than, because they said first change on 37k miles, which is where I am at. Seems like hmaservice website says 37k miles is "inspect" though.

So I am a little clueless on this? Is this like any other auto transmission where it needs to be changed once in a while?...or... it's cool until it's bad..somehow

The Genesis, Genesis Coupe, Equus, Veracruz & some of the latest SantaFes all have fully synthetic fluid & do NOT need to be flushed. Save your money. All other Hyundai models up to this point are recommended to have A/T fluid flushed at 30k.

I haven't even had my first oil change yet. Haven't checked for a atf dipstick either. so is there even a atf dipstick? if there's no dipstick, we dont have to worry about the fluid's color/smell? I have a lifetime powertrain warranty on my gc and would want to make sure i follow up on preventative maintenance to not void anything.

there is no dipstick, its a sealed unit.

Keep all your maintenance records, and go by the cars manual.

If you were asking me, I got my lifetime warranty at college park hyundai. They said only a few dealerships per region have this. Talk about peace of mind... And now I dont even have to worry about transmission fluid, superb.

This was at the dealer in Dublin. So that place no-go. They also said they gave a call to others to make sure, and only 1 or 2 dealers they called mentioned it doesn't need to be changed, and like 4-5 other ones said yes, and mentioned they big price tag... so something to watch out for. I wish trips to the dealer were more like visiting a professor, and not Narnia

"World Standard" fully synthetic ATF.
Same as in Toyotas and a lot of other manufacturers.
Supposedely lifetime, but look into servicing it around 100k.

Cars are being designed now with lubricants that last longer, and thats used as a selling point for low owner costs.
Great for sales, horrible for service departments.
I would know... I'm a Cadillac tech. They're killing us. lol

That dealers funny. Like it's mentioned above, it's full syn. "lifetime" no change just like the audi's bmw's etc have been doing for the past decade+. Visual check and watching for any leaks should be more than enough. Now even though it's "lifetime" no change, I'd change every 100k or so if you're planning to keep it for a long long time...

I drive a few brands (mostly Japanese) and none of them have a recommended change interval on the ATF, but seriously, you should. In my Subie, you should see it after 60k.... from red to brown.

It is a Sealed transmission...the dealers arent even allowed to mess with them per ZF company. So the dealerships are feeding you a load of crock.

I managed to find 2 alternative fluids to the Apolloil Red-1K.

http://www.gencoupe.com/2-0t/51819-c...ion-fluid.html

I looked around and the Motul Multi ATF only costs $11 - $15 a quart
