@ Jaymorz I used a fine grit sandpaper, it was 220 and I just scuffed up the housing surface dry then blew the dust off with a hairdryer. I bought a can of Plasticoat primer, any primer would probably work fine though. I used a can of engine enamel since it's heat resistant, 2 coats of primer and 3 coats of paint. I let them dry for about 10 hours before re-assembling, I ordered my halo's from Diode Dynamics so they were the correct size.
I haven't wired them into my headlights yet (ran out of time and it's my next project for when I have a day off) but I would stay away from those clip- connector things. I bought heat-shrink butt connector's to splice in, they have a sealant in them that seeps out after you heat them and keeps moisture out. Plus you can tell if you're fully spliced after you crimp them.

Here's a quick pic I took after work, they've made it through a foggy night and a quick wash so far with no leaks or condensation. And it's windy and rainy right now so my fingers are crossed and I'm hoping for the best. And I absolutely LOVE how it's changed the look of my car, much more menacing than the effect with all that chrome.

need help please.
I did a set about 2 years ago but I forgot the sanding stages.
I remember using like 3 different sand paper grade in a combination of dry and wet.
If someone could tell me the grades and the order that would be great.
Thanks

Im really wanting to do this to my headlights.

I have access to a heat gun to get the lights opened - should I use that or an oven?

I would really prefer not to ruin my headlights as this is my daily driver so any advise would be great.

Oven and heat gun work best. Use the oven to heat the entire light and the heat gun to keep the butyl rubber warm so that it will release properly.

^^^ Looks good! The first one I ever took apart took me awhile too, and it was pretty nerve wracking but worth it in the end.

Also my first time. Didn't go near the oven, I just didn't feel like hearing the family complain about smell etc lol so I busted out the heat gun. Surely was a BITCH to open but worked out pretty well.

Was going to do this in a couple weeks, from what I have read most people suggest nissan butyl tape to reseal but I have googled and can not seem to find anywhere to order it. Any suggestions or something else to use to get a good reseal?

I found some on eBay and Amazon for cheap, but actually didn't buy any. You'll find there is a TON of it on our headlights and I actually just reheated what was on there to reseal. Then neatly applied some black RTV silicone around the whole light to make sure it was sealed. No leaks or condensation whatsoever!

I started this mod yesterday. Took out the driver side headlight and separated the lens and housing using the heat gun. Took me about 15 minutes and it came apart pretty easily. Started at the pointed part closest to the grill area and pulled it apart. Already painted it matte black with plasti dip. Will be doing halos as well. Will post pictures as soon as I get enough posts haha

I just did mine over the weekend. I took @FlyRdye DIY Videos and it worked great.. Oven at 250 degrees for 5 minutes, check the light and then let sit about 3 minutes more was perfect to get the seal broken. Plastidipped Matt black with RetroFitSource.com RGB angel Eyes and Importshark 2Way LED audi stripes and clear corners from Dkmoulds. Will post pic later just signed up as new forum user.
