DIY~Black Housing Headlights :D

Ok, so I couldn't sleep tonight so I decided to keep myself occupied by a project. Here is the step by step on how to give your Gen some black housing headlights:

Step One:
-Remove headlights by unbolting the two 10mm bolts per side.
-Un-clip the wire harness and the hold tab under the headlight.
-Remove the inner and outer turn signal bulbs as the outer lens also takes the chrome part with it so the bulbs get in the way.
-Step one is complete your lights are now out.

Step Two:
-There are two screws that must be removed before you can start using a heat gun to remove the outer lens.

and...
They sit one over the other on the low beam side.
-Use a heat gun and separate the lens from the housing and slowly, Carefully peal the lens off.
P.S. the chrome will come with it as they are screwed together

Step Three:
Separating the chrome from the lens requires the removal of two more screws (yay!) They're located at the bottom.

and...

-You've reached a choose your own ending point now lol. I decided to take out the chrome projector cover and leave it the way it is and also decided to tape off the inner turn signal's backing so it'll reflect forwards just as well as before. Not something you have to do unless it's the style you want
-Here's how to remove the projector cover, two screws and you're done:

and...

-The orange reflector just snaps out and same with the secondary glass for the inner signal (it's in pretty stiff so be gentle).

Step Four:
-Give your chrome a good cleaning and spray away! I used a flat black engine paint for it's durability and for it's love to stick to anything... You can use whatever you'd like. You could even make it pink ...But I'd laugh at you

Step Five:
-Paint complete! Just back track the instructions to put back together, remember to seal the lights again (I suggest urethane) and install your new black housing headlights

Enjoy

Keep in mind you have a Hyundai now....not a Honda, Toyota, etc.

Oh and very nice DIY.. I personally know when I do mine it will be going in the oven rather than a heat gun

Looks great.
I wonder though how it would look on my white GC. On most colour it's the way to go but on my white I think it would make the lights stand out to much. Anyone done this with a white GC?

Surprisingly nothing got in the paint. However it's also a new house as of a few months ago so not much is floating around Also, I try and rinse the floor as much as possible before hand so I'm not kicking anything up moving around while spraying.

I like them a lot. Something i think would look nice is to color match the shroud around the projector to the color of your car. Yum.
