Default T Taps

Hey Guys,

Thinking about doing angel eyes to my head lights soon and have been doing a lot of research on how to wire them.

A friend told me about t-taps however when I googled them I saw a lot of bad reviews and how they can wear away and loose connection.

Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with them and whether I shouldnt be worried about the bad reviews or if I should stay away.

I did notice flyryde uses them for his headlights so thats a plus I think?

thanks

Solder and heatshrink is the best (what i do when i wire stuff for headlights). If you use the crimp connectors (disconnects, t-taps etc), i would crimp it and then use electrical tape to wrap the crimp connector to the wire to make sure it doesn't come out.

The only bad thing about crimps is if you use the wrong one for a wrong wire gauge (it's going to be wrong since led components such as angel eyes usually come with very thin wire, 24ga+, whereas the crimps usually are for gauges from 22 and lower)

Soldering is not necessary at all unless you need to ensure that the voltage and amperage is exact. Sensors, data wires, higher-power electronics, etc.

For LED lights or signal wires for a relay, things that just need low 12v power, it's not needed.

T-taps are great, as long as you do it properly. Just make sure they will not be pulled on / stressed and you'll be totally fine. As cowcow said, make sure you're using red (18-22 ga) and crimping them very well. Get a good crimping tool if you're going to do a lot, because normal pliers just don't cut it. You shouldn't be able to pull the wire out of the crimp, no matter how hard you pull. This is almost always the issue when you see people having problems with them.

IDEAL tools makes a very good crimping set and they are very solidly built. Non of that wobble you get with over use of crimpers and strippers.

Even hyundai uses t taps, like everyone stated, just make sure it is crimped properly and it will be fine, the electrical tape also is not a bad idea

Thanks guys, I dont really have much soldering skills, I was going to practise before I did this but think I might go the T tap route and just make sure I get the right size and crimp them properly

When the wire is too small for the crimp connector, strip it longer and double it up in the connector before crimping.
