Default Stop lamp switch recall

I see NHTSA has issued a recall for the stop lamp switch on certain Hyundai and Kia cars. The 2010-2011 Genesis Coupe is on the list.

Great. Now the dealer is going to remove my perfectly functioning switch and replace it. I suppose they cannot legally give it to me to replace myself This is probably pretty quick and they can do it first thing some morning on my way to work. My wife had the entire dashboard of her Element replaced under a recall so I am still ahead.

You don't need to go in and have it replaced if the one you have is working.

Possibly. Mine on occasion will not let the cruise control set unless I jab the brake pedal.

Interesting..the Canadian recall has been out for a while but they didn't include the coupe in it..but it is in the US recall of the same thing.

Mine does the exact same thing from time to time, never associated it to the brake switch... Just add this to the long list of warranty items I'm going in for.

I figured 2012 got a different switch as I never had issues with my 2013 tails like some 2010-11 were describing.

Thanks for the heads up

I had my brake switch replaced last year to fix a problem where the car frequently wouldn't start i.e. it behaved as if you didn't have your foot on the brake when pressing the start button. I wonder if that means my switch is OK. It certainly solved the starting problem.

You could always buy it from the parts department...I think the list price on the brake switch is less than $5. Of course, then the replacement wouldn't show up on the service record for your car, so then service might remove the already replaced switch in the future...

was at the dealership yesterday with the problem of my ABS light and stability light on for a couple days. lights went away right before i got into the shop and they told me they cant do anything to test it till the lights come back on.

then i read this. not a happy person right now.

recall dates will start in june they say so 2 months away and i know the waiting list to get in is going to be retarded.

Default Hyundai and Kia recalling 1.6M more models for faulty brake switch

Filed under: Government/Legal, Recalls, Safety, Hyundai, Kia

In what is likely the largest recall campaign for Hyundai and Kia, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has announced a recall of more than 1.6 million models due to a faulty brake switch. This is in addition to almost 700,000 Hyundai and Kia models recalled for the same problem back in 2009.

In more than 620,000 Kia models and 1 million Hyundai products for the 2007 through 2011 model years, the brake switch could malfunction causing the brake lights to not illuminate, which could lead to accident. Other possible issues with a faulty switch include the cruise control not cancelling with the brake pedal, the push-button starter not working properly and the shift interlock not disengaging causing the transmission to be stuck in Park. To fix the problem, the brake lights switch will be replaced.

Due to the large number of units being recalled, both automakers are issuing a notice by next month with parts not expected to be ready until June. The full list of affected vehicles and the NHTSA press releases are posted below.Continue reading Hyundai and Kia recalling 1.6M more models for faulty brake switch

This should have been done already for people that go to the dealer often. As long as the tech was alert, about 85% of my customers have had one done. They are pretty late with this recall

I bought my car used (not from a hyundai dealership)
How will Hyundai be able to contact me regarding this recall? Is there a place I can sign up to receive these notices?

Lol, double double for the stupid Autoguide and RSS-Autoblog posts! They're 99% the same and basically just repost information from one another. Pretty annoying...
