I am seriously thinking about just getting the type A and dealing with it by sanding down the "Coupe" thing and painting it, or wiring it for a USB port for the PC.

I bought the type-A kit from Vincent at PowerAxel, not sure if it was a once kinda thing as a favor to me or if they plan on bringing it in full time, but I had to buy the type-A to get the relocate kit (the only part I'm really after).

I'm going to be running uNavi and the IDD because I don't really like the Trip screen while I'm trying to navigate, but I'll be rigging it so they both display because navigating your iPod is WAAY easier on the unavi than the IDD.

So again, I have a type-A up for grabs, relocate kit not included.

The radio info is displayed through CAN, so to get it to display on a carputer is really simple. CAN to USB converter + CAN reading software.

Mine arrived today and I wasted no time installing it!


Perfect since my unavi died and I have to wait for a new one to show up, with the VG just around the corner hopefully it'll be a really nice setup.

Very nice: looks like mine other then i ordered the cover with heated power seat switch

so i could turn it on
it auto turns off but does not auto turn on well my GPS does not anyway

My GPS is a unavi so it turns on and off with the car, but I'll be adding a cutout switch for when i want the unavi to stay off since you can't turn off the screen for night driving.

Can anyone provide links to either the Type A or Type B from a seller that will ship to Canada? Can't find anything on eBay...maybe Im using the wrong search terms.

I contacted PowerAXEL and they sell the kit for $150. A bit too much IMO.

Can you eliborate a bit more on the CAN to USB and CAN reading software?

I have a windows XP tablet I'm looking to install and if i could get rid of the stock LCD, I would love to~!!!!

If you google CANBUS to USB you're get a lot of different options. Some are cheap, some arn't. CANBUS though isn't restricted to cars though, lots of medical equipment uses it and there are lots of other applications.

PLX makes the KIWI and it's relatively inexpensive. That uses Bluetooth though.

Software options are huge, again, google. There are some highly unattractive free versions and the higher end versions usually cost money.

To replace the IDD though you'd have to do what UNAVI did and make custom software I think, depending on how advanced the software package you got was.

Could ask Arvin and see what he can do. Maybe they'll release or sell a software version.
But it's written for Windows CE so you'll need an emulator for Windows XP.

I just ordered a new tablet (ASUS Slate EP121), once it arrives and I can get my CAN tool back from my buddy I can start working on IDD software and reprogramming the IDD to display other outputs.

posting to get updates on this. i am trying to figure out my navi/gauge/audio solution. like the unavi but doesn't seem like the interferface to read sensors in us is happening. also very expensive

HAHA I'm not mounting it! lol.

My old netbook isn't very good and the monitor was very small with a low resolution, so doing anything on it was annoying.
I like to use PDF's rather than print everything off so the EP121 is for work and to use when I'm in my car with the CANBUS tool. The touch screen is handy for me since I don't have to pack around a mouse and keyboard to every customers house.

The virtual gauge will happen, just whether is gets a US version is really up to you guys south of the border. The metric folk just either have to wait till the end of May or get a large enough group buy for their own production run.
The $500 price is a bit steep but when you think that it's a full featured OBDII reader and then look at the cost of similar devices it's actually reasonable.

i think they needed like 50 interested. 50x500 is 25k.... i never heard of such a high tooling for korea or china... so i doubt it will happen. greddy makes a reader with a screen for around 300 bux i think. and unavi for over 1k is also kinda pricey. so 1500+ total is gonna be unlikely 50 want it....

in that $25k is the cost of actually making the modules, not just the software.
