Default Water in OEM Tail Lights

I recently just had water in my right tail light. I was wondering if any one else has had this issue and how people addressed this?

I popped out the tail light and tried to use a blow dryer on it, but I couldn't figure out how to access the inside to get the moisture out. Any thoughts?

Can I go to the dealer and get them replaced via warranty?

I don't see why you won't be able to. It should be under warranty.

I had this happen to mine. It was dirt building up between the seal and the car body.

That definitely makes sense.

@RedRaspberry I'm guessing you brought it to your dealer service center and got it replaced under warranty, right?

No I found the foam seal only was 75% glued to the tail light. I just used some double stick tape to seal all the foam on and reinstalled it.

Took the bulbs out and shaky shake. Then a rinse of distilled water and a blast from an air hose until dry.

It's easy to remove the taillight. 4 8mm nuts then pull it straight back, do not try to twist it out as it has a plastic retainer on the side front.

Thanks for the help Red. I had taken the taillight out earlier. Brought it into the house and tried taking the bulbs out to get at the inside... but I wasn't able to shake the water out... it was on the outside of the housing, so blowing air at where the bulbs were didn't do anything for me... kind of annoying.

Maybe I'll give it another try tomorrow morning.... if not it's off to the service center. If they charge me, then I'll have an excuse to get the new 2013 tails

These lights are pretty stupid actually. They aren't sealed in any way, aside from a flimsy little foam gasket that just creates a bootleg barrier between the outside elements, and the inside of the lights/car. If you look at the design of the tails, all the air from inside the car flows freely into the tails. Even Hyundai said the design sucked when I was hooking up their Hurricane tails, lmao.

Agreed. You have a good point.... I think it helped me to understand how the water got in there in the first place...

I had left some wet towels in the trunk near the right tail light for a day or two... must've evaporated and traveled into the right tail light which has access to the cold to condense... Lesson learned.

The seal isn't attached to the light but with three strips of double stick tape. If it were sealed all the way around I think they will hold up. There are vents on the back of them and yes the whole thing is open the the inside of the bumper cover.
