Default D1S Replacement

Just wanted some clear answers, since I've heard different things. Has anyone had success replacing the stock HIDs with Diode Dynamic's 6000k D1S HID bulbs?

I've heard switching them destroys ballasts but was it because of cheap bulbs or should it just not be replaced at all?

Also, how would I go about replacing the ballasts instead of worrying about blowing one? I really want 6000k HID's lol..

Thanks!

By the way, I've used search and read various threads, i just want everyone's opinion in one place and maybe get some from people who have switched it but didn't respond to the other threads.

much easier when you remove headlights... takes around 1 min (2 bolts, 2 connectors on each sides) and will make the job lot easier

one screw to remove in back of the cover
bulb is a push pin retainer a bit tricky
juste make sure you dont touch the glass on the bulb

no sealing to do... you just twist back the cover, put back screw and reinstall headlight

Alright so install was exactly 1 min on each side. Turned them on both light up and no flickering. Will have to wait until it becomes dark to see final results

I will have a conversion to D2S soon guys. That should give a full options of colors, and D2S bulbs are mad cheap! I think the problem with the D1S aftermarket is due to the built in Ignitors pissing off the OEM Ballasts. The D1S to D2S adapters will hopefully be much stronger, since they are the ignitor. If they work, it'll be an alternative. I too have heard waaay too many stories of D1S bulbs dying super early, and taking out ballasts as well. I wish there was an aftermarket D2S ballast that fit the hole on the bottom, but so far, only the Matsushita GenV are even close, and they're way to small diamater. Maybe I'll make an adapter for those for the hardcore guys

@OP, try to remember to post back here if you have problems down the road. Thanks!

How much more blue is the 6000k from DD? I was trying to decide between that and 8000k, I want it to match my switchbacks and foglights.

Theyre right their with the switchbacks of mine. Maybe the hids can be a bit more blue but a friend has 8k with his switchbacks and they dont really match but 6k is just right

I have 8000k DD D1S bulbs as well. The only problem I have is that the bulbs would not turn on when the bulbs were on for a long drive. So if you take a road trip and take a rest room break, the bulbs would not turn on again. Tried contacting DD for past 2 months with numerous pm's and e-mail's, but no response. I guess their customer service department got shut down or something
