The whole dealership, from the sales people (CJ), to the service manager (Kim Bush), to the technicians, and lastly to the rude fat woman behind the service desk where you pick up your plates.

They all have attitude problems and try to nickle and dime the hell out of you.

Well, I agree that even though the dealerships are the "Experts", they really aren't insanely experienced with what they sell.

I took my car in for it's free oil change, and they tried to sell me a tire rotation for $17. The car only has 5k miles on it, with staggered / directional wheels. How do you rotate those? lol

My dealer oil change cost 80 bucks.

However, I informed myself what my car needed before I went there...the service lady was going to give me the $38 oil change but I made her double check to make sure thats what my car called for.
Sorry but they are...The drain plug washer comes with the filter, I know it's the first time I didn't have to ask for it at the counter. The filter is part of the 38$, it' states so in the brochure.

The 10$ people are paying more for the 3.8L is in fact applied to 3.3, 3.8 and 4.6L engines, not just the 3.8L. It's written in big enough characters that it's the first thing I saw when I opened the brochure.

So @ 2.0T oil change should cost you 43$ OTD.
The 3.8 V6 oil change should cost you 54$ OTD.

I did mine with good ol' Quaker 5w-30 dyno oil @ the 2200km mark, for winter purposes, costs me 30$ taxes in and all. Got an OEM filter and washer for 10$ (with the receipt stating date/VIN/Name for warranty) and 19$ for the oil. Took all but 10 minutes.

After the manual first recommended 7500km oil change, i'll be going back to my Pennzoil place as they charge ~68$ for full synthetic oil and filter and they give out a precise receipt with all the mileage/make/plate #/name information required if any warranty work would need me to prove that I did them.

Been using them for 8 year straight, never had any problems. I can say the same for the times I went to the dealership for my OTHER cars(The honeymoon isn't over yet with the Hyundai camp for me...).

OT: Is this the best location ever to put an oil filter or what?!?! I was amazed at how easy and straightforward this was!!

LOL they said the same to me too!!!

The lady went and showed me the maintenance flier stating that every X km/X months, you should do this and this and that, but stressed that I should take time to have at least the tires rotated to keep them evenly worn, but had nothing to say when I asked her how in hell is she going to rotate tires that can't be rotated?

Inner laughter ensued...

go to the parts counter and ask what spec oil the 3.8 takes...its 5W20 synthetic Hyundai branded oil.

The 38 dollar oil changes are NOT for synthetic. Can you use regular oil? sure you can. Would I? No way.

I have the 3.8 and did it myself.Filter and 5 qts semi synthetic $22.Have to remove the plastic shield under engine to access filter and drain plug(10 screws). There was no crush washer on the 3.8.Kept receipt and wrote in maintenance schedule date/mileage.
Maybe having to remove shield is the reason for the $10 increase.

I went to my nearby Chevy dealership and they only charged me 9 bucks! But I already picked up the oil and filter from an auto parts store, so total cost was about $36, not too bad I guess since I got synthetic and a K&N filter.

I didn't have to ask anyone, I took the owners manual and It said exactly what is needed about what type of oil to use, quantity and suggested replacement frequency.

For the synthetic/dyno(dino? Dunno..O_o) oil thing, I changed mine @ 2000km, to have a clean fluid for winter, I intend to switch to full synthetic at the recommended mileage for the first scheduled maintenance.

I use 5W30 because if again I read the manual, it states that 5W40 is to be used for the 2.0T for max performance, and that 5W20 is to be used for the 3.8 for the most MPGs. Then you look at page 8-5. The oil table.

IMHO the service guys can recommend all they want, I prefer concise written instructions from the manufacturer.

I find 5w20 to be a tad thin for a turbo engine.

Maybe its mighty fine for the 3.8, but I wont put it in mine.

Really? because on mine the original washer was painted onto the plug. I had to use a screwdriver to remove it.
At first I thought there wasn't any, but after looking at it, the shoulder on the plug seemed way to high.

They ask 10$ more for the bigger engines, normally because they need a bit more oil. The Gen 2.0T needs (as per manual) 5.3L and the 3.8 needs 5.6L.

Funny thing though, when I did my change it only took 1 4.4L (4.7 quarts) jug to fill it...

Sometimes, you get service writers that will inflate prices. I had a dealership tell me that it would cost me $550 to replace an axle boot, and tranny flush. I got it done for 150 at another dealership. Get your quote upfront and IN WRITING!

Lol this is why I'm glad I didn't go to that dealership for my GC... all they did was flooding my inbox lol. But the Brown's Hyundai one wasn't bad... just one of their manager is an arse... well I managed to get my 1 yr of free oil + the first free (so shoudl've been 5), but I forgot my IOU when I took off... came back cpl days later and found out it was crossed out to 1 oil chagne only... talk to that manager again and he finally gave me only 3 free + the first free... I was mad... but I'd rather not stay there and make a fuss. And the finance dept... just retarded... if it weren't for those, I would've been one of the loyal cust . Well I heard lots of good things about Alexandria dealer... gonna go there after I'm done with my oils.

ok back on topic... I thought first oil change is always free.. isn't his what is offered by every dealership?

Usually the first is always free.

Yeah fairfax didn't want to give me free oil changes or anything. They were extremely stingy. I was going to walk out, but wanted the car that day (my mistake!).

I've told everyone I know about them that have a Hyundai or are interested in them. Due to the way they treated me, they're losing a lot more business than what it would have cost to make me a happy customer.

When numbers are being thrown around. Even on the phone. GET IT IN WRITING.

On the phone, confirm the price, drive there and have them write it and sign or initial it.

My dad got screwed on TPMS sensors. I had it in writing that I was quoted $75 per sensor and he ended up paying $430 total. I was working and he had to pick them up for me.

Lol I told him repeatedly that they were about $300 for all for and he didn't question the overprice, so I guess, its his fault .

Maybe the crush washer is only on the 2.0.I double checked when I did my oil change because it was mentioned on this forum.Anyone confirm that only on 2.0?

The Hyundai service site has the 3.8L oil change procedure including a new gasket for the fill plug.

I checked the service site the 3.8 change does not mention gasket for drain plug.Where as the 2.0 indicates a drain plug gasket. So the crush washer must only be for the 2.0.
