Definitely not true. The only headers that would be illegal for daily driving are racing headers, as they typically have a side exit and are not attached to a catalytic converter or muffler, thus making them non-compliant with most emissions and noise regulations.

depends on your location, check local laws. Some areas will not allow you to modify ANYTHING on the exhaust. So even if you run a cat, if its not OEM its considered "illegal"

As 2.0TGT stated; it matters on where you live and how the laws are written.

A good example is California; if an aftermarket engine part (this includes the exhaust) is not CARB approved and doesn't have a CARB sticker on it; then it is illegal to install a car. You more then likely will end up failing the visual inspection and if you did get pulled over; they can impound your car. But California is the extreme example; now compare that to South Carolina; where we don't have any testing or safety inspections and you can see why modding your car in California can be a hassle.

It's still a federal law to run cats though. Not like the FBI or EPA will come knocking on your door about it though. They didn't to me.

Not exactly true. Its any engine equipment that doesn't have a CARB OE number, if you want to get anal with the laws.

No emmissions test center will fail you just for headers, "unless" you remove any of the cats.
