I want to get the Ark exhaust and saw their video of the Genesis revving with the exhaust on. It looked like they measured up to 95 DB with that exhaust on. I just want to have a grasp of how much louder it will be stock. I like the deep tone, but dont want it to be waking up the neighbors and setting off car alarms.
Anyone know what the DB levels are of our stock v6 exhaust? So I have something to compare it to. Thanks in advance. |

Decibel (Loudness) Comparison Chart
The 95db is most likely WOT. Though I don't know the stock db levels (I would guess ~75db at WOT) as long as you don't drive WOT in your neighborhood, you should be good as far as not waking them up and being considerate in the wee hours of the night. And that OSHA chart shows you could go WOT for 4 hours and not harm your hearing with the windows down. Last edited by whatnot; 11-27-2010 at 08:17 PM. |

The ark v6 isnt too loud if you keep the cats. No cats and it's still not too bad unless at wot. If your really worried the v6 magnaflow is very quiet, almost too quite.
Go with the ark I'd say, it should be an issue.

I have been in buildings where the HVAC system was near 90 dB and no one in it knew it. So if ark is 95 dB weighed flat, you will never hear it let alone like you would if the mids of your stereo were pumping out 90+ dB. Reason is, the lower the frequency, the less well our hears pick it up. So a meter that only shows the overall level is useless unless it can do A-weighing which applies something called the Flectcher -Munson curve. This curve applies a curve based on how the human ear on average picks up different frequencies. I would love ARK to send me one of their exhausts on the cheap so I could properly plot it against my DC and against stock |

I have had a few aftermarket exhausts in the past, a 3rd gen Rx7 with a Blitz catback, Honda Civic Si with a Tanabe catback. And now the 3.8 with the Ark Grip/system.
Well I bought the Ark grip based on the the design, it was suppose to be Drone free. But when I get into slight throdle I hear drone, anywhere from 1.7 k to 2.5 k. It seems kinda surprising but it seems there is less cabin resonace higher than 2.5 k. When I get into the gas during the 2k rpms it reminds me of my cars in the past that I have done rear end gear changes, similar to a rear diff howl. I imagine most won't mind the sound of this system, it does have a far deeper tone, and the engine does feel like it got more power. But I guess I just expected a little more.
