Default V8 Gen Coupe?

The Genesis Sedan has a 4.6L V8.

The Genesis Coupe is made on a shortened Genesis Sedan platform.

Sedan V8 + Similar Chassis = 4.6 Liter V8 Coupe.

Now, when will those first wrecked Genesis Sedan’s make it to the junkyard?

They specifically stated that the V8 engine is too big to fit inside the engine bay. They would have to do some serious modifications to the engine/car to make that work. Lastly, I dont think the weight distribution would be as nice as the 55/45 that it is right now. It's gonna be more like 60/40, like how a FWD car is. Not Good.

It might be too big for an OEM application...but as a one-off, sure sounds tempting to me. A la, cramming an LSx into damn near anything RWD

I'd think they'd be better off with a turbo or S/C for the V6 engine for better efficiency in hp and performance before they dropped a V8 in the coupe. The sticker price of a V8 coupe would be in a league of a lot more of Hyundai's competitors taking a lot more persuasion to get them to buy a "Hyundai" over BMW Infiniti, Nissan sport coupes considering prices were identical. Who knows what the future holds though, Hyundai is breaking new ground and pushing forward. We may see it in 5-10 years.

I think that the added weight of the V8 would offset the benefits to the 75 horses you would gain, the weight balance would be horrid, and it would pretty much just be a drag car.

Plus, for a LOT less than it will likely cost to get a Tau, modify the engine bay and mount the thing, get the tranny connected, etc... You could be making 400+ ponies to the ground with the lighter V6... heck you could probably be making 400+ with the 2.0 for that kind of money.

hey guys when i went to the Ulsan Hyundai facility on the 5th of january, i got to talk to 3 guys in charge of engine development and they had a genesis sedan, garrett turbos, engine blocks and other random stuff lying around... anyways i asked them about the gen coupe enginges cos it wasnt out then and they said it will have a turbo 4, a lambda II and a tau v8... so i asked if it wasnt too big and they simply said no~ they also said "it wouldnt be a sports car without one"... they must have changed their minds when they saw the v6's weight and the distribution of it.

Whether Hyundai goes through with the idea or not a Tau will end up under the hood of a Genesis coupe some day somewhere guaranteed.

Last year I was told that a seperate halo coupe was in development that will have a tau in it nicknamed amg killer but it won't see day light until the 2nd half of the gencoupes life.

The v8 was not installed in the gencoupe because the engine would have to be pulled to do pretty much anything other than a catback or intake. They even reshaped the lambda intake system so that a roots sc could fit under the hood

Also they are adding Direct injection next model year.

I believe it was 5.0 with DI and 5.5 with a supercharger to boot.

Indeed, it's always nice to have sources so we can be sure we have accurate information. The last I heard Hyundai was talking about GDI in a couple years, not next year, so if true, that's pretty awesome.
