Default Fogged up tailights

There's been a few taillights replaced because of fogging. Mine has fogged up late last fall and today I took it off. I bet I poured at least a cup of water out of it.

But it seems the foam gasket got dirt behind it at the top and this is where the water came from. I should also say my trunk had quite a bit of water in it and the passenger side taillight is fine.

So here's some pics of the dirt. The water seems to be flowing down the channel for the trunk lid right into the back of the taillight.

I need to pull the foam off to see why the water is getting into the actual taillight lens.

That's strange. Is there a sizable gap in between your trunk and the black top part of the Taillights?

Took the foam gasket off and Hyundai did not use double sided sealing tape along the entire perimeter. You can see in this pic there is only about half the total seal as is needed. Where can I get this thin double sided tape?

I also can see some perforations in the tail light that are vents so that's where the water got in.

And the side marker pigtail is burning up.

No the gasket was right up against the body. It seems that is where all the water runs and over time appears to get behind the gasket.

My driver's side tail light fogs up too, haven't found out the reason yet there. I did find where the water pooling up in the trunk was coming from, the track spoiler.

It was unusual, no evidence of water on the carpeted false floor. Water underneath the spare tire and in the "pockets" behind the wheel houses. Down in the pockets there must of been at least 1/2" deep water on either side. I took some clear silicone and dobbed it around the bolts of the spoiler. Several heavy rain storms and many car washes later, no more water in the trunk.

When I swapped my tails to superlux, I noticed the bolts holding the stock tails were fairly loose. I'm sure if you cleaned and dried off the gaskets, and tightened the bolts firmly when putting it back in you should be fine. If you're still having issues, I'd order a set of OEM 2013 tail lights which probably have a better seal and look gorgeous. =P

It's not thin, but is highly compressible, camper seal tape, found at any auto parts store.
