It’s been quite a few years since I bought my GC brand new and now I’m finally going to be doing a proper engine build now that I’ve got pretty much no warranty left.
This build page will cover the parts, process, progress and suppliers to my build as I’ll be doing reviews on the products themselves as well as multiple dev diaries covering the build from start to finish, so expect a lot of videos.
First off, the goals and expectations of this build. As some may know from my determination to build the most power OE tuned GC, where I reached 206whp and 236wtq, I’m a rather conservative builder and prefer longevity to record breaking numbers. The main point of this build is to take an in depth look at the engine and transmission of the Genesis Coupe and fix all of its short comings while keeping the stock turbo, essentially a super stock performer. While taking into the consideration of the limits of the stock turbo, peak power goal is a modest 250whp and 300wtq, if we hit more, excellent. This is not record breaking by any means however it’s where the power is and how it’s delivered that will speak the most of this build, not to mention, the years of future reliability and how it performs for roughly the next year will shape it’s successor, Project Red Baron’s design plan.
Second, who I’m working with on this.
One of the best guys I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with on an auto project, Mr.Saikou from Saikou Michi Co., who not only provided the oil catch system for my car but also made it a production unit for the whole community.
Uniq Performance has been the number one supplier for me ever since they came into the GC community. Not only does Rob offer excellent customer service, but the convenience of dealing with a fellow Canadian has made things cheaper for me in the long run, his massive amount of product selection and the fact that he actually carries stock rather than having everything drop shipped from warehouses typically means I get things stupid fast.
Piranha Racewerks has joined the team providing technical expertise, unique one of a kind products and support during and after the build.
GrimmSpeed has done all the porting on the turbo, exhaust manifold and intake manifold to aid air balance, turbo spool and hopefully give some more up top.
Fred Bean Hyundai (FBHyundai) will be providing all the OE parts that need to be replaced such as gaskets and fittings, excellent pricing, great support and no issues shipping parts to Canada.
ATQ auto provided all the shifter related equipment, fantastic accessories to suit our rather temperamental manual transmissions.
Alphaspeed is providing the ECU tuning to the Haltech system as well as technical support.
With more partners coming onboard as the project starts to take shape, stay tuned to this section as not only will I be reviewing the products I buy from them, but I’ll be reviewing them as well.

Now while some of these parts are already installed, some are awaiting installation and some still need to be acquired. Information on the already installed parts is available on my YouTube or in my alternate build thread.
In the coming months I’ll be doing constant videos of parts as I get them, reviewing the parts themselves as well as the provider. We’ll be taking an in depth look at the engine with a running commentary from yours truly as I take apart the engine and will be providing constant updates to the rebuilds progress as well as covering some of the more advanced how-to information as I take on my most invasive project yet with the Genesis Coupe.
If you guys love how I’ve taken on other projects for the GC, you’ll love this so sub and stay tuned.
