It’s been quite a few years since I bought my GC brand new and now I’m finally going to be doing a proper engine build now that I’ve got pretty much no warranty left.
This build page will cover the parts, process, progress and suppliers to my build as I’ll be doing reviews on the products themselves as well as multiple dev diaries covering the build from start to finish, so expect a lot of videos.

First off, the goals and expectations of this build. As some may know from my determination to build the most power OE tuned GC, where I reached 206whp and 236wtq, I’m a rather conservative builder and prefer longevity to record breaking numbers. The main point of this build is to take an in depth look at the engine and transmission of the Genesis Coupe and fix all of its short comings while keeping the stock turbo, essentially a super stock performer. While taking into the consideration of the limits of the stock turbo, peak power goal is a modest 250whp and 300wtq, if we hit more, excellent. This is not record breaking by any means however it’s where the power is and how it’s delivered that will speak the most of this build, not to mention, the years of future reliability and how it performs for roughly the next year will shape it’s successor, Project Red Baron’s design plan.

Second, who I’m working with on this.

One of the best guys I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with on an auto project, Mr.Saikou from Saikou Michi Co., who not only provided the oil catch system for my car but also made it a production unit for the whole community.

Uniq Performance has been the number one supplier for me ever since they came into the GC community. Not only does Rob offer excellent customer service, but the convenience of dealing with a fellow Canadian has made things cheaper for me in the long run, his massive amount of product selection and the fact that he actually carries stock rather than having everything drop shipped from warehouses typically means I get things stupid fast.

Piranha Racewerks has joined the team providing technical expertise, unique one of a kind products and support during and after the build.

GrimmSpeed has done all the porting on the turbo, exhaust manifold and intake manifold to aid air balance, turbo spool and hopefully give some more up top.

Fred Bean Hyundai (FBHyundai) will be providing all the OE parts that need to be replaced such as gaskets and fittings, excellent pricing, great support and no issues shipping parts to Canada.

ATQ auto provided all the shifter related equipment, fantastic accessories to suit our rather temperamental manual transmissions.

Alphaspeed is providing the ECU tuning to the Haltech system as well as technical support.

With more partners coming onboard as the project starts to take shape, stay tuned to this section as not only will I be reviewing the products I buy from them, but I’ll be reviewing them as well.

In the coming months I’ll be doing constant videos of parts as I get them, reviewing the parts themselves as well as the provider. We’ll be taking an in depth look at the engine with a running commentary from yours truly as I take apart the engine and will be providing constant updates to the rebuilds progress as well as covering some of the more advanced how-to information as I take on my most invasive project yet with the Genesis Coupe.

If you guys love how I’ve taken on other projects for the GC, you’ll love this so sub and stay tuned.

Need parts? Good, cause I need money.
Help fund my build and get some awesome kit you were gonna buy anyways by checking out my constantly evolving FS thread or by buying my spare transmission here

Don't need anything? Help me out by pointing people my way first before forcing them to pay full price for something they could get from my parts collection.

Product reviews will be posted here, 3rd post will be dedicated to dev diaries just to keep everything organized!

Sub'd for awesomeness to come. The list looks good. Ever think of changing the compressor wheel to a 19t or maybe bigger through forced performance or other turbo companies like that? I mean with all nice internals you can probably be close to 300/350 with the new reworked turbo.

I was thinking of a 19t but it would prevent me from running in the stock class and the next rung up would basically make me incompatible because of how FI tiers typically run, would need a major turbo upgrade.

The other factor is, I've pretty much maxed the OEM tune, now it's time for me to find out, if Hyundai had built the GC correctly the first time and gave it a decent tune from factory, just how awesome would the car be? I'm also not a numbers guy, there are people willing to drop that kind of cash to be in the top all the time but I really don't like my car being more powerful than my driving skill and if I'm going to be tracking this car I want to maximize the car to my skill, not be constantly fighting to maintain control... I've only got one good arm.

I can go for a hard boost run, and the intake manifold remains barely above lukewarm.

Try and find yourself a 13 or 12 equus brake kit, they got even bigger calipers on the 13 and i'm pretty sure the 12s too. The caliper is bigger than the oem brembo, still 4 piston though and regular brembo sized pads. If not you can source the shrembo style brakes from the Genesis sedan as well.

I have the 345mm kit, already bigger than Brembos
The 365mm kit would limit me to 19's in the winter as a minimum and for summer usage I'd have to go with 20's for proper heat ventilation. 365's are also designed for more weight, heavier rotors for stopping a heavier car and having the same thermal envelope as smaller ones. I won't be pushing 4000+ lbs so I'm comfortable with what I've got.
